Looks like FDA will recommend booster eight months after second Pfizer/Moderna shots. Not required yet for J&J vaccine yet. Perhaps it holds up longer; perhaps not, but a good example of why you need to look at efficacy data over time.

Yea, would certainly be nice if we had more time.

I believe Pfizer and Moderna were both a couple months ahead of J&J with their trials and their approvals, so would make sense we have more data on when/if a booster would be needed.

One study I saw on J&J though did shoe J&J efficacy was holding up at 8 months which is a good sign.

Exactly. It’s not only efficacy at time of dosing, but over time as well. Normally this would be captured during the phase 3 clinical trials.

Another thing that gets picked up in trials are adverse reactions. I can’t tell you how many people I have spoken that have either had or know someone who had severe reactions but didn’t report them. Not saying vaccines aren’t safe but it’s harder to get an accurate picture if you’re not collecting data as it normally is.

Do you think the FDA should have delayed the EUA in order to have more comprehensive efficacy data?

I can't tell you many people I have spoken to you either but of the ones I did, the most common and severe reactions were cold/flu like symptoms and excessive pain at the injection site. No one I knew needed additional medical attention post-vaccination.

Anecdotally, from everyone I know who got vaccinated, the worst reactions were flu like symptoms for a day and were typically people over 40. Under 40 that I know had very little to no reaction.

I’ve heard lingering numbness in hands, numbness in leg, severe nausea requiring ER visits, etc.

Most people also claim they had Covid when it first emerged. The mind is a powerful thing......

JJ gang! lets hope we can have protection for the long run. dont want a booster, want to avoid shingles this time. if i have to i will, but only after flu season picks up and i can see everyones adverse reactions from it.

Someone I know well had a heart attack.
Healthy guy generally. Not obese. Not a drinker. Heard of 3 other such heart cases in people I know of or heard of through friends. Seems to be the exception. Other worst cases were certainly less dramatic, like 36-48 hours of Covid symptoms albeit many severr including breathing, fever, etc.

How do you know that the heart attacks were linked to the vaccine as opposed to an independent event? A heart attack can happen to healthy adults. The side effects that are certainly linked to the vaccine and specifically JJ are blood clots.

I was sick both times with 102 fever for two days after the shot. But that was due to having high antibodies at the time I had the shot.

The important thing is to report the event and give the FDA the best set of data to continue to monitor the safety and efficacy of the drugs.

I hope it is 100%,but obviously won’t be.
Yeah, that’s obvious especially as some had tough reactions to the 2nd dose and will think it’ll be same or worse. But you’d think most that thought that getting it was important enough will understand the need for a 3rd, and potentially future shots.

CDC just came out and said the vaccine protection from severe disease and death is waning…. I’ve been saying this for a few months now

Did they? Seemed like they were saying that protection from infection is waning but protection from sever disease and death remained high?

Effectiveness against infection has dropped from 92-64% effectiveness. They say protection against sever infection and death are “holding up pretty well”…. I’m not sure we were sold “holding up pretty well” when they first told us about the vaccines… and I will 100% tell you that they are overestimating the effectiveness

So they didn't actually say what you just posted they said?

I'd still like to understand more about the data and why they chose 8 months. For example, was it for cases, or severe infection? But, they have been talking about the possibility of boosters since they started offering the vaccine. Not like this concept is new. If the flu wasn't seasonal, they would probably recommend vaccines every 6 months instead of annually.

That said. Hard to buy your 100% claim at this point when just 100% made something up.

What did I make up? Did you watch the news conference by the CDC director?? Protection is still “holding up pretty well.” Doesn’t that tell you it’s not as strong as it was. They will never tell you truly
How effective it is and they haven’t since the beginning. It’s never been as strong as they have ever led on… believe what you want I really don’t care. Effectiveness against infection is plummeting, effectiveness against severe infection and death is going down also. Effectiveness against infection was most likely no where near as high as they said in their studies before release…

That said in the last 1-2 months every person I know who has had covid have been vaccinated. Vaccines don’t work as well as they say, and the effectiveness against severe disease and death is not as strong also…

Also the CDC has a habit of lagging in data… are these numbers from a month ago? Are they current? They usually don’t have up to date current data…

^ That. They didn't say that.

What are you talking about? There are studies to support their efficacy.

’s never been as strong as they have ever led on…

Just not true. They have worked incredibly well.

Effectiveness against infection was most likely no where near as high as they said in their studies before release…

Or it was, but they were comparing it to a less contagious strain?

The data is as clear as can be. Most adults are vaccinated, and yet the unvaccinated make up almost all of the Covid related hospitalizations.

next post:

"They say protection against sever infection and death are “holding up pretty well”

buried the own goal deep in the net

You don’t see it and that’s fine… what were they saying last month? It wasn’t “holding up pretty well”… wait until what they say next month…. All I know is we were promised a lot more than “holding up pretty well”… and that’s being generous

What do you think you were promised?
It’s holding up well to a variant that didn’t exist when they made the vaccines. There were no promises it would be as effective no matter what. They even said one of the benefits of mRNA was that they could modify it quickly if needed due to a new variant.

92% effective at keeping people out of the hospital is stil pretty damn good.

That’s fine I really don’t care.. that 92% isn’t correct right now…

what I expect is for a vaccine that they are making people use vaccine passports for to be effective. You most likely have a lot of people losing these antibodies daily. Look at numbers from Europe and Israel, look at up to date numbers and reports from states in the USA….it’s not adding up… the cdc numbers are usually outdated and that’s something the guy you see on TV Dr. Gottleib kills the CDC for.

You guys want to beat me up for semantics and the semantics of the CDC. Last month it was there were virtually no hospitalizations for people with the vaccine or very few, now the vaccine is just “holding up pretty well”. Now the vaccine defense against the virus is “waning”… it just didn’t start recently, it’s been waning for a while now. The cdc feeds the country BS daily and everyone eats it up. The vaccine efficacy against infection is going down, the vaccines efficacy against sever disease and death is going down… it may be with just one or the other in Pfizer or Moderna, that’s a very real posssibility… but it’s not wrong in saying both the efficacy in infection and sever infection are going down, and it’s more than what the CDC says.

I’m done with this.. we will see shortly….

Is there any data on safety and efficacy of a booster shot?

Have to search for any published information, but the vaccine and boosters are still under the EUA. Data is being collected as part of the EUA. Remember these vaccines were fast tracked, not the way a drug is normally run through trials and approved.

And this is the first time mRNA is being used to deliver a vaccine. The early data showed the doses to be highly effective, but my guess is the efficacy over time has dropped (which would have been picked up in a normal drug approval process). It could have something to do with it being mRNA.

It will be interesting to see if the J&J vaccine shows the same drop in efficacy.

It also looks like COVID and the variants are going to with us long term, so we are talking about getting boosters continuously (every 8 months?). It’s like the tetanus shot we should get every 10 years), just much more frequently. The thing that remains to be tracked are the long term impact of the mRNA delivery process.

This has been obvious since July to anyone paying attention. Only explanation for so many "breakthrough" (I love that word, lol) cases and increased cases overall.

2 true but we needed a certain level of coverage.

4 still true in my opinion
