It seems like it is thrown around more in March than RPI.

This article briefly describes some of the differences.

I took a look at how each of our games were rated by the BPI and was somewhat surprised by the order.
  1. Our blowout @ Rutgers was valued more than our Home win in overtime against Wichita St.
  2. Alabama's and USC's neutral court win against a non-vanfleet Wichita team (4 pt and 3 pt victories respectively) counted as (93.3 and 90.8 respectively) and were both valued more than our home win (90.3) against a healthy Wichita St.
  3. Only beating Bradley by 8 on a neutral court was worse than losing to LBSU on a neutral court.
  4. The home drubbing of St. Peters' was valued more than our wins against Georgia, @Rutgers, and Wichita St.

Of course it is... thrown around only on ESPN as it was created by ESPN so that ESPN's talking heads can sound like they know more than the mathematical formula that the RPI is based on.

I prefer the SPK Index.

I thought the BPI was the formula for calculating body mass and height to determine how obese I am.
