Right now Palm has the Pirates in the “First Four” -- in other words, one of the last four at-large selections. Their RPI is 42, classic bubble territory.

“If they win these home games, they will feel really good about their position. If they don’t do that, obviously every good win helps,” Palm said. “One good thing you can say about this team is they don’t have any bad losses, which makes the DePaul game so important. Even if they lose the next three games, they still won’t have any bad losses if they beat DePaul.”

He is right on point in my view. So close yet work to do. Win the bookends of the next 4 and I think we're safely in.

Let's avoid going into this meat grinder of speculation and take care of business this week!!

Obviously, one game at a time for the players, coaches but, for the fans it's part of College Basketball and it's the time of the season to start thinking about post-season play.

If we beat Xavier we can get in with 10 wins, but if we lose to Xavier we will need 11 wins to get in.

Might need to win 3 out of the next 4 to avoid sweating? Is he kidding?

Two wins and we're in. And that's not counting the Big East tournament.

You're telling me (with two wins) that finishing 3rd in the 4th ranked conference in the country with no bad losses all year isn't a lock? Not buying it.

I think we just need to beat Depaul and 1 in BET to get in,

I'm not as confident with that scenario. We are widely accepted as one of the last 8 teams 'in'. I think it's reasonable to assume that if we were to lose the next three games that would move us to 'first four out' or 'next four out'. I don't think a win against lowly DePaul +1 at the BET would carry enough weight to get us back in.

I think you're probably right, but this scenario wouldn't make me feel warm and fuzzy in 3 Sunday's from now:

Prov - W
Xavier - L
Butler - W
Depaul - L
BET - L

By the way, I don't think we're losing to Depaul this year.

One thing I do like that all the prognosticators have said is that our fate is in our hands. We have three opportunities for a good win in conference, and one more opportunity to seal up a no bad losses conference season. I'm glad (where we sit now) we aren't reliant on what other teams do.

I'm sure the players know that. I hope they come out tomorrow and this weekend with nothing but business on the mind.

I'd rather not back into the tournament because "we have no bad losses." Let's get some scalps to really solidify things this week ... And not have to worry on Selection Sunday.
