Column by @SteveEdelsonAPP: Pirates are still in good shape, but work to be done. http://on.app.com/1TdGopl via @AsburyParkPress
Our win over PC gets less impressive by the day. Like the Villanova game, I'm not upset about the loss, just think that it was another missed opportunity. Win that game last night, and you're pretty darn close to punching your ticket. We have alot of work to do.Last night was a lost opportunity to make life easier as getting to 8-4 would've been HUGE because it gives you incredible room, plus another quality win.
Our RPI is #53 today (KenPom #36) with 2 Top 50 wins, led by Wichita State (#33) and at Providence (#36). We have 8 Top 100 wins. All of our loses are to RPI Top 100 with the worst at #87 (LBSU).
I think we need to get to some combination of 11 conference wins to feel good on Selection Sunday. Whether that's 11-7 or 10-8 + 1 in BET. Need to take care of business.
It will probably take 11 conference wins to get in
Wrong 10 we are in.
The committee will have to determine of Mq beats PC cause the conference is deep of cause most of us are not that great. I think the former. I still think we are gonna surprise the doubters and win our share of the rest. We've played in a much tougher BE in years past and gotten to 10 BE wins and been left out of the Tourney.
If we have 10 BE wins and are in 5th place and Butler has 9 in 6th place, who gets in?
The problem is that when teams like Creighton and Marquette have crummy OOC's, but then beat the league's top teams, it isn't viewed as a good thing. The committee will have to determine of Mq beats PC cause the conference is deep of cause most of us are not that great. I think the former. I still think we are gonna surprise the doubters and win our share of the rest.
