Carino's top 25

I know it is all about match-ups, but if Nova is #1 in country, we now know that if we play well, we can beat just about anyone in the country.

A team should have the ability to go into any arena in the country and compete before they are highly ranked. So that's my top 10 I'd say.

The next 15 would have the ability to play with any team at home, but can't beat the best teams or compete on a regular basis on the road.

Seton Hall is probably in that 25-35 range I'd say at this point. That's a school that is in the NCAA Tournament with a decent seed. It will be interesting to see where The Hall goes from here.

Coaches poll:

Hall at #31 seems reasonable. How did Notre Dame not crack the top 25 after the UNC win, geesh. I love the fact the Coaches dropped LVille from the rankings. Is that a statement, or is it in the rules that a team not eligible for post season can't be in their rankings?

Looks like a rule since they don't have SMU in there either.

I don't get how SHU did not crack top 25 with their kenpom ( 30) and BE and overall record and 4 game win streak when you consider providence still in at 17 with a worse BE record, kenpom of 50 and dropped 2 straight games this past week. So I feel kind of snubbed.

Don't feel snubbed. The voters make kneejerk decisions that make no sense. How is Wichita St above us?

We still don't have that exceptional win. SHU has solid wins and their
overall play is on an upswing. The Nova game was the chance for the marquee win until we get Xavier at home in a couple of weeks.

I'd rather we keep winning ranked in the 30's than to be ranked #24 and have the team distracted. You could make the argument that the SHU Women's team checked out after they got ranked and beat DePaul on the road. That NCAA bid is the prize we're after.

But we did beat two ranked teams, one at their place. I pay no mind to the rankings. Where is it written that the voters have to make informed decisions...

It's also about match ups... There are teams that are ranked 50-100 that could give us trouble ad there are teams in the top 10 we could beat. Nothing is based on where teams are ranked.

It's fun to be ranked, and by rights, we ought to be right now. But polls in this sport are meaningless (other than to appear in ESPN CBB highlights, which is not nothing), and I like the added motivation that a failure to crack the top 25 brings. Keep the team hungry and humble; if they retain those two feelings, they can do a lot.

Yes I agree. I'm saying that when I look at a team this what is
important to me in deciding if this is a legit ranking. I know they have
formulas and compare SOS and so forth.

I know Villanova is #1 right now and kudos to them and the conference, but they don't seem like a super team. Seton Hall just doesn't seem like a top 25 team to me. Maybe they can be if Delgado continues to play on this level. I believe Seton Hall can compete with any team right now in the country at Prudential. I'm not sure they can go on the road and beat most of he top teams.

Its good that we are having the conversation though. Means we are getting closer.

We beat Butler and we only have X and Providence to top and we are in guaranteed. We can't lose to those who we need to beat. The question is I think we can beat Providence at Home, can we beat X?
