Chris Christie

I watched some of it. He occupies the sane, center-right lane where a lot of people are. He seems to have mellowed a bit since he was governor, which is a good thing. I wouldn't count him out even if he doesn't quite fit the mold of the primary electorate. Excellent communicator, clearly studied Reagan and Clinton (probably the two best presidents of the last 50 years) as he has elements of both in his style.

As I have said, Christie is the best speaker of the Republicans who have announced. He is also the one who just tells the truth about Trump and his crimes unlike all other candidates besides Asa Hutchinson.

Republican voters don’t want to hear him. Question becomes will the tide turn? If it does, Christie has set himself up for prime position.

As an aside , Christie winning the White House would be very good for Seton Hall Law School.

Just proves Chris Licht was a screwup. Company runs better without him.

Winning the nomination doesn't seem likely for him, but if he did I think he'd have a very good chance to win the presidency. Republicans will vote for him because he's not a Democrat and he's moderate enough to get some centrist Democrat votes. Of course, that would all if Trump runs as a 3rd party candidate, which would split the Republican vote and give the Democrats an easy win.

Some R's won't turn out for him if he wins the primary, which I don't see happening. And I don't think anyone who labels themselves a Democrat would vote for him -- they will vote for whatever candidate has a D next to his name or her name (if Biden were to somehow not run). That's how blind tribalism works for 95% of voters IMO. True independents? Sure I think he could get some for sure, especially if he's up against someone like a Biden or a Harris. But not nearly enough to bridge any gap.

I think there's enough of a divide in both parties right now that there are a good number of people who would vote for a moderate candidate from the other party over an extremist from their own. You are right that the Trump cultists won't turn out to support him, but the Democrats won't rally as hard to beat him either.

We also agree that it doesn't matter because he won't win the nomination.

id vote for christie over biden. so youre wrong. Ds will vote R if it makes sense. Rs much less likely to vote D. its an identity. if a moderate R gets into the pres race i think theyll win (unless trump also runs)

if trump runs ind i think enough of trumpers will turn out to hurt republican votes. that would be comedic

Christie is a liar. While running for gov. he came to the police/fire unions and told everyone to vote for him saying the dems want to change the pension and benefits. He said he was part of that system and knows how important it is to keep it intact. I even have a letter he wrote to the unions. One of the first things he did was a big lie. He changed the pension, took away a lot of benefits in retirement and eliminated the Cost of Living Adjustments.

I think Biden is hurting this country with his policies. In my opinion he is the worst president since Carter. With that said, I would still not vote for Christie over Biden. I couldn't in good conscious vote for Biden, I would just not vote for the first time in my life.

Well said.

Dem Fanboys pump up Chris and other horrible R candidates like Liz Cheyney cuz they don’t like Trump.

Their festering TDS consumes them. Sad.

I am pro union however what christie inherited for pension system was unsustainable without some type of reform

My issue is that he lied. It would have been easier to take if he told the truth.
Christie is a smart guy and strong on policies that made sense and were pointing the state back in the right direction Unfortunately, his ego is enormous and ended up being his demise.

Rebuplicans are always anti gov spending. thats the entire platform. democrats are the opposite. was christie really trying to convince people the opposite? did people really buy it?

I understand SHUMatt's perspective, because it was something that personally affected him. My wife was a public school teacher at the time, and she was impacted as well. I personally agreed with some stuff Christie did that impacted her union, even though it impacted us financially (principally, changes to her health coverage), because I thought it was for the greater good. But what I would say SHUMatt is that every politician you ever voted for and will vote for is going to lie to you in some way, shape or form. This one just stings more because it hit you directly. Get your perspective though, because the biggest thing that impacted my life the past few years is the COVID-stuff, including as regards school/kids, and so the biggest driver of anyone I would vote for is how they reacted to that compared to the opponent.

State workers took their jobs and were promised certain benefits while working and into retirement. Those benefits were negotiated in good faith during contract negotiations. Workers gave up pay raises in exchange for those benefits. Christie changed the rules in the 9th inning. He should have made the new rules for future employees.
