Churchill Adds Laura Messina to Pirate Staff

South Orange, N.J. – Seton Hall softball head coach Angie Churchill has announced the addition of Laura Messina to the Seton Hall coaching staff as an assistant coach.

Laura Messina joins the Pirate staff after serving as an assistant coach on the University of Massachusetts softball staff since July of 2019. In addition to UMass, Messina also held coaching positions at both Connecticut and Fordham, as well. Messina began her collegiate coaching career at Rutgers, where she spent two seasons as a graduate assistant and pitching coach on the Scarlet Knights' staff.

Messina enjoyed a very strong collegiate playing career at Central Connecticut State. In her four years as a Blue Devil, Messina led her squad to two NEC Tournament Championships in 2013 and 2015 earning automatic bids to the NCAA Tournament. The 2014 NEC Pitcher of the Year finished her career with a program-record 100 wins to go along with top career marks in strikeouts, innings pitched and complete games. In 2015, she was named to the USA Softball's Top 50 Watch List for the Collegiate Player of the Year Award.

"I'm really excited to have Coach Messina join our Pirate softball family. She brings a wealth of pitching knowledge that will help elevate our pitching staff," Churchill said. "She was a passionate player that loves to compete and I'm looking forward to seeing her further develop our program."

The Marlton, N.J. native graduated with a Master's Degree in Liberal Studies from Rutgers in 2017 and earned her undergraduate degree from Central Connecticut State in 2015.

South Orange, N.J. – Seton Hall softball head coach Angie Churchill has announced the addition of Jorge Solodkin to the Seton Hall coaching staff as a volunteer assistant coach.

Solodkin played his collegiate ball at William Patterson where he appeared in 91 games over four years for the Pioneers. Primarily a catcher, Solodkin was a solid player behind the plate developing his catching knowledge and experience.

For the past six year, Solodkin has been coaching travel ball with the New Jersey Fight. In addition, Solodkin also has experience coaching Millburn High School in New Jersey as well as Montclair State University.

"I'm excited to add Coach Solodkin to round out our coaching staff and be a part of the Pirate softball family," Churchill said. "The passion and energy he has for our game is undeniable. He will be helping us with our catcher development along with helping build our championship culture mindset."

Solodkin is a Millburn High School graduate with a bachelor's degree in physical education from William Paterson in 2018.
