After going up 52-45 in the second half on Saturday, Villanova turned that into a five point lead of its own with a 17-5 run over the next 6+ minutes. Seton Hall was stuck on 52 for 4:38 after the Harris 3 pointer to get to 52 and the biggest lead of the game. This has been a concerning trend this Big East season.
Jan. 1 vs. Villanova: Only 1 field goal in the final 5:44 of the game. No field goals in the final 3:34.
Jan. 15 @ Marquette: Took a 5 point lead with 9:42 to play. Scoreless for 3 minutes after that. Only 2 field goals in the last 5:12 of the game after taking a 4 point lead with 5:13 to play.
Feb. 9 vs. Xavier: 8 point lead with 3 minutes to play, yet turned into a highly stressful ending. Did hang on for the win. No field goals in those final 3 minutes of game time.
Feb. 12 @ Villanova: 7 point lead with 10:58 to play, scoreless for the next 4:38. Only 1 field goal made in the final 3:15 of the game.
These stagnant offensive periods are one of the reasons why we let teams hang around, have difficulty separating and lose some games we probably should have won. Need to be crisper in crunch time.
