PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Despite a career night from Isaiah Coleman, the Seton Hall men's basketball team fell to Providence, 91-85, in its opening road game of 2025.

For the Pirates (6-10, 1-4 BIG EAST), Coleman recorded a career-high 26 points on 10-of-19 shooting from the field. The Friars had five players in double-figures and shot 48% from three, while the Pirates shot 31.8% from beyond the arc (7-of-22 from three.)

How It Happened
In their first road tilt of 2025, an opening scoring salvo by the Pirates put the visitors up early. Coleman netted a pair of buckets, including a transition three, to go up 7-4 with 17:21 left on the clock. Despite that early dominance from The Hall, the Friars found their form from deep and put the game quickly into a state of flux.

As the Pirates pulled themselves even, their first bout of adversity for the night arrived in the form of foul trouble. A pair of early fours forced leading-scorer Isaiah Coleman to the bench with 13:22 left in the half as the Pirates went down 14-12. In his place, another Pirate thrust himself into the driver's seat of the Pirates offense. Chaunce Jenkins quickly turned the game on its head, going on a solo 8-3 run to put the Pirates back up two, 20-18 with 11:51 left on the clock.

Despite strong play from Prince Aligbe, the half slowly began to slip away from the Pirates. In the closing stages of the first half, Providence found themselves up five, 41-36, with 2:30 before the half. However, Chaunce Jenkins would not be denied as he ripped off a 5-0 run to bring the Pirates and the Friars to the half at a stalemate, 41-41.

Out of the break, Providence struck first before Aligbe drew the game even once again at 43-43 with 19:22 left. The ensuing minutes saw the Friars pull out in front by four, only for Gus Yalden and Coleman to bring The Hall back within one, 50-49, with 14:41 remaining in the game. Despite this, Eli Delaurier made two threes on an 8-to-1 Providence run to give the home side an eight-point lead, 58-50, their largest of the game with 13:03 remaining in the half.

As the game continued to heat up, the Pirates yet again quickly fired back to tie the game. The Hall rebounded with their own 8-2 run to draw the game even at 60-60, with 10:54 remaining in the half, off the back of six points from Aligbe. Coleman proceeded to put the Pirates back in front, 62-60, with 9:40 remaining in the half to cap off that explosive run.

Despite their lead, adversity returned to challenge the Pirates. Both Coleman and Jenkins sat on the bench with four fouls as the clock ticked under 9:00 left in the game. Without their leading scorers, Providence took advantage of the visiting side. Led by a pair of threes from Joseph Bently, the Friars reversed the game's momentum and put the Pirates down 8, 71-63, with 5:38 remaining in this BIG EAST clash. With the game on the like Jenkins and Coleman returned to the game with hopes of pushing the Pirates back into the lead. Despite their best attempts, the Pirates could not come back and fell to the Friars 91-85.
