Nearly 15 years to the date Katrina made landfall and Laura is intensifying rapidly. I pray that people seek shelter and evacuate. I pray that local and state officials take this very seriously.

Why wouldn't they take it seriously? It's a major, major hurricane.

Seriously this is your reply?

Kathleen Blanco screwed her state. The FEMA director resigned. The NOLA Police Superintendent resigned. Ray Nagin screwed his city.

What were they supposed to do? It's a natural disaster.

The #1 item you do with any weather related event that shows science and data is a significant threat to human life is preserve as many lives as phsyically possible. Busses were flooded and not used to evacuate people because Blanco did not sign an emergency exec order allowing anyone with a license to drive a bus. There were not enough bus drivers for the inventory for one. Nagin waited until the morning of 8/28/05 to call for mandated evacuation of New Orleans.

Yes i agree with you levees were gonna break, NOLA is a below sea level city, a lot of low laying land and communities on the gulf shore so houses and properties were gonna be wiped out. You can rebuild and replace. You can't bring back the dead.

People have been evacuated from the area so I'm not sure what your point is.

Katrina magnified the incompetence and corruption in Louisiana and New Orleans. Wake-up call for FEMA. Cat 4 with the prediction of storm surge is going to be devastating. You would hope people heeded the warnings and evacuated.

This may be the defining moment of the Presidential election.

Just recently FEMA has changed course is closely looking at not rebuilding certain areas prone to continual flooding and instead focusing on trying to relocate those residents in those areas. They have spent billions in aid that has been wasted within 5 years when another storm has hit the same areas with the same result. A delicate issue for sure but the longer term solution is to admit certain areas are gonna get hit again and again and spend the resources more wisely.
