Congress

Some takeaways:
- Kavanaugh Kills: Just ask Heitkamp and Donnelly
- Blue Punishment: Blue states like NJ took out their hate for Trump on House candidates
- Celebrity Poison: Swift, Oprah, Davidson...FAIL!
- The Message where it counted: Illegal immigration and the Caravan got out the Trump base in key states (FL, TX, AZ)
- Where’s the juice?: Clinton’s were essentially benched and Obama failed vs Trump where they went head-to-head campaigning (GA, IN, FL, etc.). Note to DNC-find new faces for 2020.
- Waves?: House to Dems; Senate stays with Reps....more like ebb and flow....ah the MSM

I think the Dems control of Congress was the result of Trump and it’s a Dem victory. For instance in Morris County Sherrill won in a heavily Republican area. The map may be changing in some places. I do think it is a message to Trump that real issues do matter.

I don’t think Trump cares. I think this is also a message to the Republican Party that they better find new leadership as well.

There is another unfortunate message which is that extremists win while moderates in both parties are falling by the wayside.

Tom, unfortunately, you are correct. How did both parties let this happen? IMO, there needs to be some self reflection. When Congressional approval ratings have been in the teens and dropping, who do you blame?

You mean moderate Dems lost like Bederson in Tenn. what Republican moderates lost to a super left winger?

Florida still remains a mysterious state as the Cubans still vote Republican. The most disappointing result was Ted Cruz winning. How such an unlikable, selfish no backbone guy still wins is amazing.

You can pretty much write whatever narrative you want from last night. It really was a good night for both sides honestly.

There was a congressional wave which will result in a house majority larger than most here were predicting with seats flipping blue in at least 15 states so far and a popular vote margin that will be larger than the republicans received in their wave election in 2010. Though the senate results were sobering for Dems, I don’t think anyone expected they would control the senate. I do think they were less competitive in some states than most were expecting.

Both sides do have valid arguments for a “win” but I’m happy with a decisive win in the house that will give Democrats influence on policy.

Interesting discussion they were having on ABC last night, some thought that the Republicans losing the house would be good for Trump in 2020 election.

Named specific examples, Reagan losing house in 1982 and Clinton losing house in 1994, both went on to easy victories 2 years later. Gives Trump a target, can blame Pelosi (or whoever is speaker) for all the problems, similar to Clinton message in 1996, were Gingrich was the enemy.

No surprises in NJ other than maybe Lance losing...but that was considered a tossup.

The most disappointing thing about last night was NJ voters approving the ballot question. Another half a billion dollars of debt that will have to be serviced by a broke state. Think your taxes are high now? Just wait.

It would be nice if both parties worried less about "their side" winning and spend more time working together and working for US!

Indeed, that would be fantastic but I have never seen that and don't really expect to in my lifetime.

Citizens can stop being lemmings too. Don't support it. Don't vote for it. Demand a stop to the hyper-partisan, extremism, and party over priority BS and then stop feeding it yourself. Your side doesn't have all the answers and the other side isn't always to blame. Stay engaged with your elected politicians through email, phone, their website, etc. and hold them accountable. Be respectful and relentless. Encourage others to do the same.

I agree. We all have a responsibility. Money and blind partisanship are the root of the problem and we can all fix that.

Watching FTN yesterday and came away very impressed with Dan Crenshaw from Texas. Leadership qualities so desperately needed in politics. Doesn’t parrot talking points, asks provocative questions and is focused on solutions.
