Had the opportunity to hear Cory Booker as keynote speaker at a healthcare conference in Las Vegas today.

I don't know enough about him and I'm not sure what to make of Booker, but overall he strikes me as someone who does really care about changing the landscape on the difficult issues (i.e. education), and he understands the impact of technology changing our lives. I also have to give him props for taking on and trying to fix one of the most corrupt and inept government and education structures embedded in Newark. His critics call him an "outsider", but the guy moved into the city not in the greatest of areas. Also seems to be a politician that is less concerned about right or left, but rather real solutions....which I'm sure many see him as a threat. He's in a bit of a predicament in Newark, because the issues he is taking on will take many years and I'm sure he will be pulled to run for something more significant....how does he create a system to sustain and ensure success if he moves on....the vultures would probably welcome that day. If he does, I hope he goes after Lautenberg's seat.

I figured he would be going after Christie's seat. Agree with your assessment from what I know of him though.

ever watch Street Fight? fantastic documentary about his first unsuccessful run against Sharpe James.
No I haven't but funny you mention that because Booker referenced it in his remarks. I don't see him running for Governor because Booker will not want to run against him, and he can do more good for the state as a U.S. Senator.

"Street Fight" is a facinating look at inner city politics and the dirty tactics some pols will use to get elected. Campaign shots to Sharp James using every trick possible to maintain power. It was almost comical when James would get on stage and refer to Booker as the White Jewish Gay candidate implying that Booker was all three while James ally then Gov. McGreevy would nod in agreement. The film was nominated for an Academy Award as a documentary.

One other thing. James oddly enough used another strange campaign tactic by claiming that Booker was "much too educated" to be Mayor of Newark. As riddiculous as these charges may seem, they worked as James was re-elected over Booker in that election.

Cory Booker and Chris Christie are "allies" for the same reason that Barack Obama and Chris Christie are "allies". Because they are Educational Corporatists.
