#12 Rashed Anthony
6-9 235 Position Center
Anthony is a favorite of Kevin Willard, the staff and his teammates. Arguably the most likable player on the roster.
Rashed never complains. Does everything asked of him and is the team's enforcer if things get too physical on the court. Those attributes, combined with his work ethic makes the RS sophomore valuable to the team and staff.
Strengths:
Anthony has a physical upside and strong work ethic that holds out hope for future improvement. He has raw offensive skills but makes up for it with prowess on the offensive glass converting dunks, close in shots and tip-ins. As his offense continues to develop, Anthony shines more on the glass with his physicality.
Weaknesses:
He must improve his foot work in transition as he's not good at catching and scoring on the run. He also must improve his lateral quickness which often leads to foul trouble. His offensive skills are still raw but he does possess a few moves close to the basket that can end with a jump hook or a soft floater.
Bottom Line:
Anthony seems like he is just beginning to get his bearings on the basketball court. He has a good body and is very strong albeit slow of foot.
This coming year:
As the game of BB changes to one with a faster pace and an emphasis more on long range shooting and creativity a player with Anthony's skill set, especially one prone to foul trouble is becoming a dinosaur. Doesn't mean there isn't a place in the game for him but for that to happen he must take advantage of his physical attributes while improving his weaknesses.
Last year I noted in preseason practices more than any other player I had no feel for Anthony's game. That's because he disappeared on the court rarely touching the ball on offense and doing little on D.
That must change. I don't see last years edition of Rashed getting a lot of play in 2015/16. Not without a lot of improvement and a smarter BB IQ.
The Hall still doesn't have a lot of options at the 4/5 but they do have more than last season. That means it's imperative for Anthony to show more than he did in his freshmen season if he wants to earn PT.
