#8 Veer Singh

6-7 185 Position SF

Singh has become a man of mystery ever since he departed St Peter's Prep in NJ to play in NY. Add to that his reclassifying up a grade and the young SF has flown below the radar.

A few months ago I asked Alex Kline why he didn't have Singh on the roster for the Mary Kline Classic. His response was he "sort of fell off the radar'. That comment coming from someone like Alex who is as keyed into the HS BB scene as any this side of Tom Konchalski was surprising

Strengths:
Singh's motor is his calling card as he plays extremely hard on both ends of the floor and makes things happen as a result. Offensively, he runs hard in transition, goes hard to the offensive glass, is a consistent floor spacer and shooter to the three-point line, and also a frequent visitor to the free-throw stripe because of how aggressively he plays in contact. Defensively, he can check multiple positions, has enough wiry strength to bang with bigger players on the post, is very aggressive hedging ball-screens on the perimeter, and gets his hands on a lot of balls.

Weaknesses:
Singh is best suited as a complimentary piece offensively and can struggle when trying to do too much offensively. He doesn't handle the ball well enough to create his own shot with any type of consistency and is generally the type of player whose points are going to come either at the rim or when in rhythm from behind the three-point line.

Bottom Line:
He's an ideal role player because he has a fantastic motor, is a hard-nosed and versatile defender, who can help provide spacing on the offensive end and make open shots to the three-point line.

This coming year:

Veer is a free spirit. Sometimes marching to the beat of his own drum. But with that said he has shown respect to his older teammates and that is probably borne by the fact that he has played with and against many of them including Angel Delgado, who he has known for many years, Khadeen Carrington and Isaiah Whitehead.

As noted above Singh has difficulty creating his own shot but he does have a very high and quick release so although he's somewhat dependent on his teammates he doesn't need a lot of room to put points on the board.

He is also an excellent passer with superior court vision.

The minutes are there at the 2 & 3 and although Singh is not a guard I can see him getting some play there due to our shortage at that position.

However, more often than not I expect Veer to back up DRod at the 3 playing his sometime hectic brand of BB.

At this point since I have not seen Singh play in two years I'll surmise that he gets upwards of 15 MPG and becomes an offensive spark off the bench. His shooting will be sorely needed and if any of our guards go down he may be required to play the 2 in a pinch.
