We've had a discussion on this board about the Benghazi thing. To me, this is a much more believable story.

Since the event four years ago, I've always been amazed at the fact that the Pakistani air defenses did not react to our choppers coming in from the west. Even more unbelievable is that they were there for over half an hour at the compound, in a military town.

What do you all think?

Interesting. Hersch seems like a pretty credible journalist. Nothing would surprise me.

After reading lots of stories and real life accounts, the one thing you have to understand about US-arab relations is that the arabs will sell their soul to the highest bidder but need a way to save face at the same time if the deal goes bad. The US/CIA spends so much money on bribes and backroom deals to get things done in the Middle East that I would not be surprised at anything at all. At the same time the Pakistani defenses are simply not that advanced. Nothing would surprise me either but it would not be beyond the realm that the US paid dearly for the access into Bin Laden's lair.
