23 out of 150 going to the Big East
So after all the speculation about McDermott after his comment (would he be fired; would guys play for him) he has 3 kids in the top 75 and another in the top 150 coming to play for him. Not too shabby.

We all say dumb things, that was really dumb, but his players seem behind him so that is good enough for me. He did lose one highly ranked kid who had committed to CU I think.

The sad part is high school recruiting matters half as much as it used to because it's all about recruiting transfers.

You need a mix of impact transfers and top high school recruits to compete in the top25. And Willard has to continue to be a good scout and coach players up for us to be in the top 25.

Not too shabby but he lost the #11 overall HS player in TyTy 5 star (which would have been best recruit in big East) as well as the #13 best transfer in Bishop which may be even a bigger loss.

Still not where it was before unfortunate comment but news of his demise is overstated. Time heals so I think if there are no more hiccups he will be fine just not where he was.

Winning the HS recruiting battle is less important, being in final top 3 or 5 list for a high end recruit is more important though.

Our staff already did this but we need to play more of the long game and not burning bridges if not selected by recruit. Of course unless they go to another Big East school than we would never get him.

There are 351 D-1 schools playing basketball and if you multiple that number by the 13 scholarships each school is allowed that gives you 4563 total ships available. There are 1606 players that have entered the portal which represents 35% of the total ships available and easy to see how important transfers have become In recruiting to college programs . The wind shift that has taken place with the growth in transfers , up close to 50% this year alone , coaches no longer can count on freshman being there for four years . When you add in players declaring for the NBA draft or just turning pro roster turnover is going to be much higher then just 5 years ago and the more logical place to fill out your roster
is the transfer pool .

Agreed I'm not saying it's irrelevant but it's important isn't as important as it used to be since players move on more frequently. Winning a major recruiting battle for Timberlake or Richmond out of HS was huge 20+ years ago. Today it's nice but you they can easily be gone in a year.
