Dan Patrick was having a normal interview with Kentucky head coach John Calipari when he brought up the ‘Platoon System’.

And all hell broke loose.

Ok, maybe that’s overstating it a bit, but the show got super awkward, super quickly. Cal yelled at Patrick, Patrick hit him with the “I’ve got other legends, I’ve got guys who won national championships [on the show]”, and Cal came back with “I don’t know very many people who could stand you, that if you called, they’d come on.”

Woooooo. Check it out:

As Dan said later in the show, they give each other a hard time on pretty much every interview and it's always fun banter. He said that the two of them have very similar personalities, which leads to exchanges like that. Where Dan said it got awkward during the interview was when Calipari said he wouldn't platoon again and Dan wouldn't just let that be a passing comment (which is his style with interviews).

John Calipari may have gained some fans Friday morning.

Calipari took divisive ESPN Radio host Colin Cowherd to task for his constant verbal attacks on Wizards point guard John Wall. Cowherd has criticized the former Kentucky point guard for a long dance he did during intros at his home NBA debut five years ago.

“You’ve got to stop on John Wall,” Calipari chided. “You’re out of your mind. He did something [five] years ago when he was 19 years old. He does a dance. What was the name of the dance? Stop.”

Cowherd, who has said he would build a team with Jimmy Butler over Wall, also referenced a recent incident in which Wall and a group of friends were escorted off a plane in Las Vegas after a verbal altercation with a passenger.

“Don’t you think he could mature a little?” Cowherd asked.

“Oh, no, I’m with you,” Calipari said. “Listen, he has come so far. There’s not one time that he doesn’t text me or call me that ends with: ‘Coach, I love you.’ Are you kidding me? And I’m telling you, he took over a franchise that was abysmal; they’re now in the playoffs. He’s 24 years old.”

After a discussion of the best point guards in the league, Calipari got in one more rip on Cowherd, while complimenting him in the same sentence.

“You have your convictions — most of them wrong — but you do have your convictions, and you speak about them,” Calipari said. “You do a great job.”

Here’s the video of Cowherd ripping Wall from 2010, calling him an “idiot” and makes a bizarre bank robber comparison....................

Maybe this was a different video than the interview you referenced, but I didn't hear any of the lines you quoted. Cal seemed pretty darn friendly in this particular interview.
