Dar Commits to The Hall

How much are we paying these mid major guys and will we get any high major transfers?

Happy to have a shooter though

Looks like same recruiting approach as last year.Lets hope it works out marginally better. We obviously don't have the $$$ to compete with the big dogs.

Another rotation player. By my count, nine on roster with seven rotation guys. No “A” player, and only two bigs.

I hope whatever money left is going to someone over 6’10” that can play 30 mpg.

He’s a decent 3-point shooter but does little else, plays no defense. Ranked as the no. 830 transfer by Evan Miya. Normally I’d give that a C- but I’ll bump that to a C because he does provide 3-point shooting, something Seton Hall desperately needs.

Well Apparently Gonzaga wanted him or is this fake news.

The transfer portal continues to challenge Gonzaga’s roster rebuild for the 2025-26 season. On Saturday, the Bulldogs lost out on one of their top wing targets, as Rice transfer Jacob Dar committed to Seton Hall. The 6-foot-7 forward had been in contact with Mark Few’s staff shortly after entering the portal, and many believed Gonzaga would be a strong contender for his services.

ivy, fake news allowed. positive news is frowned on.

I never heard of this kid until his name popped on our boards, so I always reserve judgment on that type of player until we see them for extended minutes against high majors. That he seems to be someone capable of shooting the 3 is a positive with this current roster, but we had and lost Middleton who could do that and actually did it a high major levels (with a pedigree this kid doesn't have).

He was at a D-II school and then Rice. Miya, who people here consider a "quasi-bible" when it comes to transfer rankings and evaluations, has him in the 800s. So, that certainly tells me something.

Memphis also actually had him for a visit apparently, which means their interest was possibly "real" on some level. That's a decent sign because Penny does tend to accumulate talent. They also had a commitment from David Tubek before he left them to come here, so there is that. The list of "schools reaching out", like apparently Gonzaga, I don't put much stock in because very often that is BS floated by agents or handlers.

The way the roster development is going, whatever next seasons level of “success” will be will depend on one thing primarily— can Clark hold up at PG. If he can we should improve over last season. How much improvement is open to debate.

All that being said, Dar is a good addition.

That’s the issue: no difference makers.

This cast 1-3 is better than last year’s, likely even at the 5. We don’t have a 4. And while maybe better, still not the level we used to be around here either bc of money or inept leadership. Maybe both.

I agree that Clark is going to be our most important player next year. Along with staying healthy, the step up in competition is also a major concern.

We’re building a roster full of a potentially solid supporting cast, the problem is we don’t have a stud for them to support, let alone the 2-3 necessary to compete for the tournament. And there has been zero indication that will change.

For me Dar and Payne do add an athleticism that we may not have had last season. So thats a good thing. Also, this crop of players should do better against the types of teams we should never have lost to last season. Having said that without some of these transfers shooting better from the outside, the team will struggle against the big boys. Obviously, the roster needs size by next November or it will be another long season.

I like the players we added…the evaluation of each transfer we pick up all depends on what the final roster looks like and where they will be playing in rotation (starter, 30 min plus guy or a 10min a game lower rotation player)

Obviously, how much we pay for each transfer is important too but we will never know those numbers.

To fill out the roster, and we can get a great PF starter and alpha proven shooter/scorer (bring in 2 studs) then maybe our roster can be nice.

Until then, we are all speculating.

I actually think he might end of being the starting PF next year. I know there's still a few spots to fill and that he's only 6'7, but Sha has shown he's willing to start undersized PFs especially ones that can defend, which Dar can. I like him in the starting lineup since as of now he is the best 3 point shooter on the roster. That will keep defenses somewhat honest and open things up offensively. Nice get

1) At 170 lbs?

2) He's rated poorly defensively.

I will speculate a known fact … the squad is much too small and will get destroyed on the glass and in the paint. One additional PF will not clean up the problem.

Do some of us here actually watch basketball, have played it, or understand the game? Aligbe was an undersized 4 in the Big East and got exposed. What do you think will happen to a guy who’s a skinny, spot-up shooter and even shorter at the 4? This would be a terrible outcome if it happens.

Guys were fielding a power conference team with players from the mid majors.

Sure some will hopefully be good but so far it is not enough to compete for a bid at all

Knowing that should guide your expectations for next year

Based on the stats, Dar is a good addition. Harsh reality right now - Seton Hall is going to fill out the majority of the roster with mid majors. I don't have a problem with that, look around CBB. Plenty of kids make the jump in competition. Plenty don't - you better have a system and people in place to identify good fits.

Seton Hall needs 1-2 solidified alpha's or guys they are REALLY confident can step into that role. Pay up for them, and then fill out the roster with guys like Dar. Miss on the alpha's and yeah, you're in trouble.

We still have 4 roster spots to fill. Gotta think they will be primarily bigs. Need to pay $ for a legit power forward.
