Newark, N.J. - Al-Amir Dawes (Newark, N.J.) scored a career-high 25 points and Kadary Richmond (Brooklyn, N.Y.) poured in 21 points as the Seton Hall men's basketball team got back in the win column with an 88-75 victory over Northeastern on Wednesday night.
Dawes added four 3-point makes as well as five rebounds and five assists, while Richmond picked up six helpers and six boards on the night. As a team, the Pirates shot 59.3 percent from the floor as they eclipsed 80 points for the third time this season.
How It Happened
The Pirates went down 4-0 early but they used a 10-0 run, capped off by back-to-back layups by sophomore Isaiah Coleman (Fredericksburg, Va.), that put The Hall in front, 10-4. Leading by just four, 17-13, with 9:20 to go before halftime, Richmond picked apart the Northeastern zone and found sophomore Jaquan Sanders (Queens, N.Y.) on the wing for a three-pointer that kicked off a 14-4 run.
Dawes' first trey of the evening gave the Pirates a 34-20 lead at the 2:57 mark in the first half but the Huskies answered with a 9-2 spurt to get within seven, 36-29, at halftime.
Dawes stayed hot at the start of the second half as he made a driving layup that made it 40-31 and he later kept The Hall's momentum with two made three-point baskets on consecutive possessions that gave the Pirates their largest lead of the game, 56-41. Northeastern got within eight with 3:16 to play but Seton Hall cashed in at the charity stripe making five consecutive free throws that pushed its lead back to double-digits for good.
