Deion Sanders may have to get his left foot amputated as he continues to suffer from blood flow problems in the area, according to doctors with the Colorado football team.

“You just have to understand what the risks are,” vascular surgeon Donald Jacobs told Sanders on “Thee Pregame.”

“Things can cascade.”

Jacobs also told Colorado athletic trainer Lauren Askevold that “he could lose the foot.”

Sanders, the new coach of the Colorado Buffaloes football team, has been dealing with issues with this foot for some time, including having to have his big toe and the toe next to it amputated due to blood clots running down his leg from the top of his calf.

Max Wohlauer, another vascular surgeon, told Sanders that the blood pressure measured near the left foot had been the same as the blood pressure in his arm a year ago, but is now at around 66% compared to the arm.

“So those arteries have shut down,” Wohlauer said.

During Sanders’ time coaching at Jackson State, he routinely dealt with pain, including on game days.

“It starts hurting after a few hours, and I have to keep the blood circulating to get movement out of it,” Sanders told Shannon Sharpe on his “Club Shay Shay” podcast.

“Like, I can make it through like three-quarters of a game, then after that, I’m on meds and everything. I’m limping, I’ve got a little stroll at the beginning of the game, and right at the third quarter I’m limping like crazy.”

The 55-year-old missed three games during the 2021 season with Jackson State due to complications with the foot.

Such a procedure will be life-changing for the retired 14-year NFL vet, and he understands the importance of getting it done before the start of his first season with Colorado where he’s put together a team led by five star cornerback Travis Hunter and two of his sons, Shadeur and Shilo.

“I want to do it this summer, because when we get rolling, I’m not going to have time to do it,” Sanders told the surgeons. “This is the best down time I have.”

Sanders went 27-6 in his three years at Jackson State and has shown an ability to recruit big-name players, making him an attractive candidate for bigger-name programs.

Colorado is going through a massive transfer overhaul in Sanders’ first offseason as he tries to turn around a team that went 1-11 last season.

Colorado head coach Deion Sanders is dealing with another serious medical issue, according to Pat McAfee.

The sports broadcaster tweeted out Thursday afternoon that Sanders is undergoing emergency surgery on Friday for a blood clot in his groin.

McAfee received the news from Adam (Pacman) Jones, who appeared on the Pat McAfee Show on Thursday. Jones spoke directly with Sanders, ahead of releasing the news.

“There is some news coming out of Colorado about coach Prime — Deion Sanders — and I want to make sure I get this right. You were talking directly to him — a blood clot has been found in his groin, and he has emergency surgery happening tomorrow,” McAfee said to Jones.

“Yep, 6 a.m.,” Jones replied.

Sanders has had his share of medical issues recently, including having two toes removed due to blood clots. He revealed last week on Instagram that he could end up needing his foot amputaed.

“As you know I’ve faced some medical challenges with my foot but I’ve never said ‘WHY ME’ – I keep moving forward, progressing,” Sanders wrote on Instagram. . . . “See you never know what a person may be going through while I sit in your seat of judgement but you can trust and believe that we are all going through something – just keep the faith and know that if He brought you to it, He will bring you through it . . I’m CoachPrime and I’m built for this. #Coach Prime

“I have full trust in my medical team and God Bless, Dr. Ken Hunt (orthopedic surgeon); Dr. Donald Jacobs (vascular surgeon); Dr. Max Wohlauer (vascular surgeon) and @laurenjaskevold Lauren Askevold – and more importantly I have full trust in Jesus!”

Sanders added during the video that he doesn’t have feeling in the bottom of his foot.

As McAfee pointed out, through everything, Sanders has continued preparing for his first season at Colorado. The two-time Super Bowl champion continues to coach the Buffaloes and hasn’t missed a beat after spending the last three seasons at Jackson State.

Sanders was 23-3 during his final two seasons leading the Jackson State Tigers, before being hired to take over the Colorado program last December.

“What I find so incredible here is… he’s still coaching, still going, still working, still doing everything. It’s like nothing has stopped,” said McAfee, who recently agreed to take his show to ESPN. “It’s like, ‘Man, what all is going on with Deion while he’s still trying to lead 100 something men?’ It’s quite a time for him.”

Jones, who knows Sanders well, added that this isn’t a new issue that Deion Sanders is dealing with.

I feel bad for Deion but I always resented him for bullying an elderly Tim McCarver on national television by twice dumping buckets of ice cold water on him. Not cool for an elite athlete to physically bully someone who was at least 30 years older than him.
McCarver was 50 (hardly elderly) when it happened, Deion was 25ish. This wasn't a Floyd Mayweather/Larry Merchant situation.

It was pretty ugly I recall. I can’t stand any incidents of bullying. With that said, I’m starting to feel really bad for Deion. I didn’t realize he was that sick.

I was in Columbus years ago when Deion was playing for the Yankee AAA team (Clippers). Went to a game that he had a couple of hits…interviewed him on local TV that night and he said he couldn’t wait until he got called up and out of there. Didn’t go well with the locals, but I get it.

I saw this live and Deion was saying where’s McCarver. He went after McCarver without Tim knowing itHe came up from behind him and threw a bucket of ice water into the side of his head violently. The first was the worst but he then did it three more time as he was looking at him. That’s my memory. I never had any respect for him after that.

Prime Time dumped a bucket of ice on McCarver for criticzing him playing for both the Falcons and Braves in 1 day. Sanders overdid it but McCarver wouldn't let it go either.
