I Iove Delgado, but I think he could be more productive and I think he will be as he matures.
Some salient points:

1. I don't think we can ask more of him as a rebounder.

2. Delgado has a beautiful touch and a nice accurate hook shot. But, they have no set plays for him so they are not utlizing him offensively as well they might. Since he is not a focus of the offense where he could not only get his shot but could reverse out to the perimeter, his opposing center doesn't have to work hard on the defensive end and consequently is less likely to get into foul trouble.

3. Since Angel normally is guarding a bigger center, wouldn't you think they could get Jerry Walker to help him by tutoring him on positioning and being able to musle out an opponent without fouling.

We don't feed the post very well. Never have for years. So he doesn't get the touches he should get.

Last year Delgado was a much more featured part of our offense. Jaren and Sterling fed him the ball early and often. Without more 3-point threats, perhaps defenses are sagging on him. Or maybe Willard trusts the guys with the ball in their hands to make good things happen. I, for one, would like to see a mix of both. Whitehead, Carrington and Desi took 51 shots between them - Delgado had foul trouble but I think he took 4 shots. Ish had 0 points I believe. Need to share the ball more - and move the ball more with less dribbling and better passing.

We certainly did with Teague. Why feed the post if our bigs aren' t skilled enough to score? Not sure that Jerry Walker is the right guy but our post players definitely need a great deal of work.

We sure did with Teague. Delgado is a different kind of player - much more athletic - which is why he should be moving more and his mobility featured. The dancing bear he's not, but right now he's the forgotten man on offense - or in hibernation

Delgado needs to WORK for position. He does not do that well at all. The problem is more than saying "we don't run set plays for him." We do have some sets for him, but positioning is one of his weaknesses on both ends of the floor.

Regarding his defense, opposing players often get great position against him because he doesn't front them and offers little resistance when they start backing him down or making a move. He is too afraid of committing a foul. He could become an absolute beast by getting more aggressive in the post on both ends. He certainly has the talent to do so, his game needs to be refined by the coaches. Some of that should also come with experience and maturity.

Listen, I'd like to see him be more aggressive as well but two fouls in the first 8 mins is bound to happen. Then what are your options? Anthony and Anderson to back him up. Hmmmmm.....

I would like to see him front the post more but that's risky when Nzei is in the game. To me, he's not there yet as far as weakside defense. Ish gets it.

He got destroyed by Farr yesterday.
Angel was a boy vs Farr, a full grown man. Degado isn't big enough to play the 5 against guys like Farr. He needs at least 20 more pounds of muscle to be effective against the big centers, otherwise he is a good 4 playing out of position.

09, spot on.

Well said, shu09. Both sides of the floor are related for him in this way. You have to get after it in the post in this league.

Delgado is an exceptional talent up front and once he starts recognizing these finer points the sky's the limit.

He just gets bullied out. hes just not open or doesnt get in a good position. and then if he does get the ball dont expect him to make too many moves. not the toughest guy on the team thats for sure. he does have a nice hook type shot and he has been shooting FTs wayyy better.

everyone is right about his defense. really scared about committing fouls.

Our recruiting has hurt Delgado and this team. We simply need more able bigs. While Nzei and Ish have been great surprises we don't have that big 6-10 guy to man the middle. As a result we don't match up well with certain teams like Xavier. And Farr is very good.

Overall Xavier is just a better team than we are with more players. They can shoot from the outside, are patient on offense and keep bringing talent off the bench without much fall off. They are also well coached. That team has the opportunity to go places in the post season IMO.
