Denver celebration leads to 11 shot

Ten injured in mass shooting as Nuggets fans pack streets to celebrate first NBA championship

By Lee Brown

Ten people were wounded in a mass shooting in Denver early Tuesday as thousands packed the streets to celebrate the Nuggets’ first NBA Championship win.

At least three of those hit were in critical condition, cops said, with the suspected shooter among seven others who sustained non-life-threatening gunshot wounds.

The gunshots rang out at about 12:30 a.m. — about 3 1/2 hours after the game — as celebratory throngs packed downtown.

Cops said the shooting was in an area where a lot of people might have come out of bars after the game.

“As far as what led up to this altercation that resulted in the shots being fired, that’s still under investigation at this time,” police spokesperson Doug Schepman said.

“It did occur in the area where we had [the] largest gathering of folks celebrating during the night.”

Police tweeted that nine “gunshot victims have been identified … plus a suspect who also sustained a gunshot wound. “

“This is a complex, ongoing investigation in its early stages,” the department tweeted in an update.

“Preliminary info indicates multiple shots were fired during an altercation involving several individuals.”

What the hell is wrong with people!? I guess since Disney World is now basically unaffordable to the average person, the answer to the question ’Your team just won the championship, what are you going to do next?’ is now being answered by either destroying the property of others or randomly shooting people. Sad.

Not useless to dealers at all, considering price points and THC content.
that was the initial catch was that the price and tax made it much more expensive. i think that wasnt the massive issue it was set out to be. thc content is nuts at dispensaries.

You just like it for the Italian restaurants.
North Beach had some great Italian restaurants. Haven't been back in a few years. I used to go to a spot called Caffe Sport that had solid Italian food - very casual, not too pricey.

US major cities are disasters. San Fran used to be a beautiful city.
One of our team members was in San Fran last week for a meeting and his hotel was a half mile from from Oracle Park. He wanted to walk over and check out the stadium, but turned around after two blocks as he was being accosted by beggars and drug users.

I guess anything can happen anywhere, but I also walked over to the stadium (about a mile and a half in my case) and not only was the entire way perfectly fine, but the spot where Oracle Park is is terrific. Lots of new construction, active city life, booming retail, and the marina adjacent to the stadium (beyond it's left field; not visible from inside the stadium on TV) is picturesque. It's not the kind of place where panhandlers are going to thrive unbothered for very long.

I’m not sure I would call it terrific.

I've traveled to SF since around 1988 at least a few times a year and many years 5-6 times. The last time I went was a month before the pandemic.

The city (financial district and Union Square especially) got very seedy and crime went up during Willie Brown's tenure. It was unmistakable. All of a sudden there were lots of massage parlors and strip clubs popping up and more street crime. Many more visable people living on the street and certain areas that used to be safe were not at night anymore. This is not new. When I would go I knew the city and dealt with it still enjoying all SF has to offer, but it wasn't the same place. I still enjoyed walking around the tourist spots like the Wharf etc but the city changed some time ago. It's fine, but our standards have gone down considerably on what is acceptable. Like many cities, crime is clearly around, stores have moved out because there is not the foot traffic nor protection against shoplifting entire shelves of merchandise. This has caused many pharmacies for instance to close or operate behind bars. This is not good for the residents and the poor that live in cities. In Philly the carjackings are awful the last few years with no end in sight. City residents need more protection not less and many cities are hopefully coming around to those facts. The whole defund the police stuff and DAs not enforcing the laws has hurt cities IMO significantly and the riots a few years ago did serious damage to certain cities like Minneapolis and Cleveland. In Cleveland where I travel all the time, the city was alive 3 or 4 years ago and now it has taken a step back. If you really want good intel talk to the cab and Uber drivers.

US cities used to be safer and a strength of the US. Things need to change and it should not matter what party affiliation you may have. You can point to murders being up or down, but walk around the cities and see for yourself. Things have changed significantly in many cities and not for the better IMO. I find that Boston is one of the few cities that has been kept up and is clean and easy to walk around in many parts of the city. It has its sections for sure, but it feels far safer than NY, Philly, SF, Atlanta and many other great cities that have tons to offer. The cities are a great resource for culture, restaurants, historical sites and so much more. Not sure what the answer is but we have to do better IMO and stop lowering our standards. Our kids and grandkids futures are what is on the line. Sorry for the long rant.

I lived in SF during the backend of Willie's tenure and the start of Gavin's and current state of SF is nothing like that. That time frame coincided with the Dot Com explosion (and dot bomb contraction) and SF was booming. It's a city. It's going to have its downsides but that was as great a place to be for those 7 years. The 70's and 80's were not kind to the city but it made a huge comeback with the tech (and tech stocks).

It's def got more of a homeless problem now than 20 years ago but that's true with lots of city's I've been to recently.

This doesn’t sound like the shot random people. Sounds more like an altercation where people were caught in the crossfire.
