What a game for Gordon! This kid is tough. Did a great job on Dunn. Great move by Willard to start him.

The whole team played very good. Whitehead may have had his best game. I only saw him take two ill advised shots although he made them both. But he played within the flow of the game and did not hog the ball or put up wild shots and he played the facilitator on offense. Changes how this team plays when he plays unselfishly.

I did not think they could beat Providence away. How wrong I was.

What a gutsy player Gordon is...great defense and hit his shots today...a great kid and had a great game.

I think Derrick really is the team leader. He dives for balls, he draws the charge, he gives everything and sets a fantastic example.

Not being negative but at least 2 fouls on Dunn were questionable especially his 5th

Three most impressive things that really stand out about DG's this season,
1. His D, especially his ability to take charges in the open court
2. His 8-12' drop shots
3. His ability to rebound

Crazy how well he played against Dunn but why so poorly against Watson? So frustrating
One guy can't defend the pick and roll. Watson would simply deliver a nice touch pass to the big. Watsons production was aided by our lack of defensive rotation. No help defense led to easy assists. It was not a reflection of Gordon's individual defense

He's given this team his all. His D is as advertised and his add'l offense really helps. Super game. Gotta luv his hustle.

Different players. Dunn is big and physical. So is Gordon.

Watson is unbelievably quick. A much tougher assignment for a player like Gordon.

Saw similar issues in practice when he was matched up against Jevon Thomas before the season started.

Dan, just interested in hearing your thoughts (no negativity). Gordon played great defense yesterday but did you think a few fouls on Dunn were questionable?

I didn't think they were that questionable thought the refs were actually pretty fair yesterday.

Not the charges. They were legit. But yes some of the others were. You don't expect to get 50/50 calls on the road and we did.

But you know what? When a team hustles and really plays hard that influences refs to make calls that they might not make in other circumstances.

I think the whistle was very slightly in our favor yesterday. But I also think we earned that whistle through hard work and determination.

For teams that need just that one player to move them up to the next level , I'm a big fan of getting that graduate senior to fill that need and adding Gordon has been a big plus for this team. You see teams all the time that are so much better because they've added that graduate senior and Tony's team last year certainly proved that .

Gordon's hash tag in his tweet "honeybadger" says it all ---a tenacious, tough animal that never gives up. His leadership will be s difference maker this year.

Gordon's leadership after the Creighton debacle and then again on the court yesterday was obvious. Could be just what this young group of players needs. Finally.

To call a players' setting and follow it up with the game he had yesterday? Big time.

This is Gordon's fifth year in college which brings with it a level of maturity and experience that can prove invaluable to any team and SH is benefiting from what he adds both from a basketball and leadership perspective .

In addition to this good point on experience I would also add the character element to the equation with Gordon, especially in the sense of how we've seen him get out in front of other situations in his life as well.

Agree Piratz .

Great late pickup by Willard. Not as talented as Gibbs but for this team a more important player.

Hard to argue with anyone who likes the trade off.

I was a big fan of Gibbs last season but now I am glad everything worked out as it did.

Gordon has proven that he is a true leader. He won't back down and he brings the most out of the rest of the team. He knows and plays his role extreamly well. I am very glad we have him and proud that we have a young man of this level of character representing our Pirates.

As we've watched Gordon become an increasingly important part of this team he becomes a problem for the teams we play. They cannot ignore him offensively and they have to factor in how to deal with his shut down defense , especially when it's on their guards . The more problems you create for your opponents the better chance you have to win and Gordon is becoming a problem for them.

impressed with his defense, offense, leadership, etc. hes doing extremely well right now.

He is one big dude. Those shoulders are wide and those arms are big. Can really make space for himself in the lane and no one pushes him around on the floor.

Especially this year, the sum is greater than the parts. I think we'll continue to see that as the season progresses.
