I've bled Pirate Blue since high school.

After all that time, I'm feeling an overwhelming sense of disappointment and a growing disinterest in Seton Hall athletics.

The last 20 years have been mostly down times for every team as far as post-season success.

I'm not even excited about going to tomorrow night's women's game. I kind of feel like, "Why should I bother if sometimes even the players seem disinterested."

Most of the time, most teams are not even somewhat competitive. Sometimes a team will have one or two good seasons and will follow up with several ridiculously non-competitive seasons.

I know this is not group therapy, but do you ever feel like I'm feeling right now?

400, the women's team has been ranked and is going back to the Tournament again.

The men's team is in line for their first NCAA Tournament appearance in 10 years. Tough loss last night, but an exciting stretch run to come then the great tournament at MSG before Selection Sunday.

Get excited!

I have been a seton fan fan for 30 years. This is the most excitement I have had for the men's basketball team and how far these sophomores can take us this year and the next two years to come. These kids give us every reason to feel good.

As for the women , what a great group of young ladies. They are playing extremely well and represent the school so well.

So, I really cannot relate to the original post.

400, yes, I have at times felt exactly as you describe.

The number one kill joy is when it appears that the team is sending it in the mail. A diet of that kills joy faster than anything.

The only antidote is time and philosophical consolation. And it works in an unknowable time frame.

Having BOTH teams playing in a funk is pretty depressing, given how much energy we invest.

I hope your feelings pass. We know you are a great fan. Time to breathe and step back and see how it feels.

Blue, Can' get down on this team. Four of our five conference losses were to teams that are or were in the top 25. The other loss to Creighton we avenged in a return match, That's sports unless you're the Patriots or Duke.
I'm a Jets fan so I guess maybe I'm inured to it. Beat Georgetown and the depression will dissipate immediately.

57, thank you for your thoughts. My post was simply reaching out with a friendly hand to 400.

Who says we all are equally strong every day in the face of emotional challenges.

Who says we cannot listen to a fellow in need.

We are 17-7, 7-5 in the BE with a [still] very young team.

When I first read this post, I thought it might have, somehow, snuck in here from a year ago.

Ok 400 - If I was General Patton in a foxhole with you I'd have to slap the crap out of you to wake you up. We are playing our best basketball in February in a very long time. We lost one game because our players legs were tired, they are young and we had a bad night. Seton Hall and General Patton don't need fans that are gonna curl up in a ball in the corner after one loss. We need fans that are gonna dig in deep and root hard and take one for the team. So take off your big girl underwear, go commando and join the real Pirate Fans. Let's Go Pirates!!!!

That was pretty funny, 112. Good one!

And thanks, Blue.

In fact, thank you all for making me see the light.

I'll be there tonight cheering. Both teams can still dance if they play well.

Go Pirates!

Things could be worse - you could be a fan of that Central New Jersey BIG fan. Now that's depressing!

Who wouldn't have signed on the dotted line for 17-7, 7-5 at the beginning of the season? Who wouldn't have signed for it after the first Creighton game? The fact that these kids have been playing their hearts out and coming away with Ws most nights and some people are disappointed is disgraceful

Well, you're free to be tone deaf to the expressions of the original poster. Disgraceful is a pretty outlandish response and well, have a nice day.

No offense mash but if you have been a fan for 30 years and this is the most excited you have ever had for the men's team, you missed out on a hell of a run from late 80's to early 2000's...

I am cautiously optimistic with this group for sure. I have been burned too many times the last 10 years, but so far this season every time The Hall has had a tough loss, they have come back strong. I'll be at the GTown game Weds night and hoping it's the start of another 3-4 game streak... Next year could be special if everybody stays, but let's focus on finally getting back to the Dance...

I'm a Nova fan but Seton Hall is one of the teams I make sure I TiVo every week. This is a super fun team to watch. Sure there will be bumps on the road for a team featuring a bunch of sophs and a transfer senior, but these guys are playing well together.

This is the best response post ever!! Still laughing my ass off. Pirates are playing great ball but obviously have some work to do. Everything I see tells me they're going to pull it off and will be dancing but no gimme's in the BE and that's what makes it exciting.

Look this is the make or break. We need to believe. Everyone can get depressed at anything. What we need right now is to keep doing what ever it is that keeps these guys fighting for every possession every time Let's get more of us behind these teams and come out and scream our bloody heads off. It is rediculously cold outside. Pirate Blue flows and keeps the warmth inside of true SHU fans. We have a shot, let's ALL take it.

BTW, my post also was about all sports.

You'd think that a 160-year-old D1 university should have managed long ago to run ONE program that is always competing on a national top 10 level.

Yet in that time, it has never happened. Men's basketball did it for about 4-5 years from '89 to '94. Can we have one sport that's a top team year after year and decade after decade? Any sport. I don't care. One sport.

I've cited FDU's national championships in bowling. Go ahead and laugh. But they can claim a D1 national title.

How about Iona in Cross Country? In recent years they competed as top ten finishers in the NCAA.

How about Providence in hockey and Villanova in track?

Can SHU have one sport? CAN WE JUST HAVE ONE GD BIG PIECE OF CHICKEN!!!

Who wouldn't have signed on the dotted line for 17-7, 7-5 at the beginning of the season?

Sitting where we are from a record stand point is okay. The BE isn't what it used to be, and we aren't the undisputed basketball champ conference anymore. In the old BE 9-9 or 10-8 was a virtual lock position. Now it is okay if you've got a good out of conference. I'm not satisfied just being a "bubble" team. That's basically a set up for if we fall on our face people can say "but we were on the bubble, that's good enough". Conference or bust.

Also keep in mind that record includes losing to LBSU and facing the weaker non-conference SOS. Nobody is impressed by our NCSOS of 265. If we had the same record with a win over LBSU and OSU, with a loss to Virginia, our 17-5 would be a lot better from a quality standpoint. Those are just the facts. I have no qualms with how we've done in conference. It's been good to great, with the exception of the Creighton and Butler home games. Holding my breath for the Gtown game and beyond. This is a big turning point moment coming up next week.

0-3 between Butler, Prov and X = done probably even if we sweep the rest

1-2 between Butler, Prov and X = bubble and we need to beat Gtown, St. Johns, Depaul

2-1 between Butler, Prov and X = dancing unless we lose to St. Johns or Depaul (then we are on the bubble)

3-0 against those teams and I will shine Willard's shoes.

I think we'll know how this season is going to go after the Gtown game.
