Butler at Seton Hall

8:30 p.m. | FS2

The Bulldogs, the first team out of the bracket as of Friday, are now two games below .500 against the top three quadrants and that's a big problem. They need to finish 3-1 to get back to even par entering the Big East Tournament, but this is the toughest of those games.

The Pirates, who are part of the "next four out" in the latest bracket, have some winnable home games left and it would behoove them to win them. Seton Hall is a .500 team against each of the top three quadrants, but I guess that shows consistency. Its two road games remaining are at Creighton and UConn, so that is why the home games are so important.

Butler being the “first team out” is somewhat understandable. However, us being in the “next four out” is absolutely insane. Unconscionable. It’s almost as if they are creating a built in reason to keep Big East teams out of the tournament so they can make room for the mediocrity that is the b1g.

Don’t confuse Jerry Palm with the real world.

He also said last week conf tournys dont mean much which is insane to me if true

This has been true for years.

The conference tournaments have meant little to none.
We felt the full effect of that when Whitehead and co took us on that magical run in the 2016 BET. Not only should we have been a higher seed after all that, the committee totally screwed us over with that Gonzaga matchup out West. It did nothing for us. We might as well have lost in the semi finals, gotten more rest and probably a more reasonable first round matchup. Wouldn’t trade that tournament victory, but a lot of good it did us!

Theyve said for years and years. Most if not all seeds have been agreed upon by the Saturday of tourney weekend. Only thing that changes is auto qualifiers. Don't some conf tourney championships happen on selection Sunday also

Beat Creighton win at UConn, and take care of business at home. Finish 2nd or 3rd in the big east and hope to get an 11 seed. I had to stop listening to this garbage. Playing right into Sha’s playbook which is fine for me. No respect. We should get Rodney Dangerfield to represent us.

To add on to this. In order to be able to complete the seeds by Saturday. The field has to be selected by Thursday/Friday. At least with the power conferences, the tournaments mean almost nothing.

It really seems crazy. We're 11-5 in a top conference. The OOC was bad, but it was also long ago. We've been a solid tournament-level team for months now. I know the complete resume matters, but if you're trying to determine who are the best N teams for at-large berths to fill the field after automatic qualifiers, it's just hard to understand a lot of these teams being seen as better than us.

The work is mostly done by the end of play Saturday night. They have contingency plans in place to account for the Sunday tournament finals.

This year there are five games on the day of Selection Sunday. The finals of the A-10, AAC, Big 10, Ivy and SEC.

It's reasonable to conclude that the A-10, AAC and Ivy could be one bid leagues while the Big 10 and SEC finals could have little to no effect on the bracket.

The Selection Committee has made the point that it doesn't want to overvalue a few hot days at the conference tournament when compared to a full 30-odd game schedule.

Texas A&M found that out the hard way a couple of years ago when it made the SEC Championship game and was left out of the field at 22-12 (12-10 in SEC games, 9-9 regular season) on Selection Sunday. This was a team with one top 100 NET non-conference win and had a eight-game SEC losing streak. They were 9-10 in Q1/2 but had been 6-9 prior to the start of the SEC Tournament.

Except if u lose early, then they use it against u. Its stupid. Count every game! Then why cant u say well a few losses in nov/dec when the team hasn't figured themselves out but now they are legit? U can justify any excuse u want to.
