The past 2 games Willard has made subs within the first 4 minutes after we get off to hot starts, then we go ice cold for about 5 minutes. Not sure what the mindset is here, but if this happens against the tougher teams we play it will come back to hurt us.

There is no need to change the lineup when we are running hot.

I don't disagree, but it is hard to criticize when they are decisive wins.

No idea what the reasoning is. I just hope that there is a reason and that it continues to work whenever it happens.

This is not new. He has been doing it since he came here. It did not work yesterday. He subbed en masse when we were up 19-4 and brought the starters back six minutes later with the score 19-14. I did not see the beginning of the Troy game but am told it was the same thing then.

My guess is that he is trying to get the 2nd unit as much "real" game experience as possible against an opponents 1st unit. The reason he does it en masse is that they play together as a unit in practice and there is some degree of familiarity and cohesion. All that being said, it hasn't worked in years and has proven time and again that our 2nd unit not only isn't competitive, but gets dominated by any opponent's first unit. Time for the experiment to end.

As I said in another post I don't mind the mass substitutions early in the game against teams we should destroy. Its an attempt to give the subs max playing time. It also gives the coaches time to get the starters back in if it doesn't work. Should there be an early mass substitution vs Wichita State on Saturday, I won't like it, but vs SPU, Troy, and USF I see no problem with it. The subs need playing time to get better. Ajou saw almost no minutes last year, then Delgado gets in foul trouble vs Villanova and we need to use him. How those guys get minutes now is not as important, but it is important they see some time.
