ed cooley locker room speech

I think the guy is great, but I didn't hear anything so terrific in those words.

If you ever had the privilege to listen to him on the Big East Coaches Conference calls, or in the post game pressers you would know that he is on the rise to coaching stardom.

Some coaches just have the 'it' factor. Ed Cooley has it in spades. A credit to his profession.

75, a great leader can easily place basic content into the emotional surround needed by his listeners to see the way forward.

Ed Cooley clearly does this. Man, if even one of the snakes in suits in my company woukd be lije this.

I think we are getting into the "if someone other than kw does it than it is great". What Cooley said was fine and if they make a movie about him that speech won't be in the screenplay. Many of us have mentioned Cooley for years in rebuttal to the ridiculous "Willard needs more time to clean up our mess" lol "we need to win before recruiting picks up", so I don't need to be sold on Cooley.

I found the XU coach's word to be more inspiring.

NJ one of the coach's speeches shown last night knocked me out. All were perfectly fine.

Fair enough - perhaps we are responding naturally to the animating spirit of one versus another according to our own lights. I am not inspired by Chris Mack at all - however, you are. Interesting variations.

And your point is, likely that anything, including a damp dish rag is more inspiring that KW, which we all agree upon, but that does not make the dish rag a great example of inspiration.

It's great to have the motivation skills but his determination to win makes him special.
I know a lot of coaches have it, but you can see it in his eyes and face and know it's in his heart.
Some coaches have it and some don't..hmm?

Cooley is very impressive articulating the Providence message and as equally important winning games and recruiting at a very high level.

Quick story ... my nephew was being recruited by the Providence Lacrosse and the Lacrosse coach had Cooley address the recruits. Cooley let the recruits ( not his ) know about the expectations at the school ( Hard work, commitment, typical stuff ) and basically said to a bunch of great recruits that if you are not interested in 100% commitment don't attend Providence, my Brother in Law said it was an unreal speech, my nephew signed that day.

This guy sounds legit.

Let's be honest, the search was botched because the decision makers wanted a clean cut, conservative, upper middle class guy to project a "corporate" image after Orr and especially Gonzalez.

Pretty much and it has been an epic failure! This will be the final nail in the coffin for SHU basketball as there will be no one at games next year or the year after

SHUMA04 - this makes complete sense - very sadly of course.

Don't get me wrong, those aren't bad things. They're just at best marginal and maybe even irrelevant.

The issue becomes when you focus on that profile to the exclusion of ability to do the fundamental job.

One gets the sense that Willard didn't even need to open his mouth to "dazzle" at the interview.

With a strong referral from a coach that banged his mistress on a restaurant table....

We had a law school dean pick a basketball coach. It hurts too much to laugh.
