PISCATAWAY – Once urged by his mentor to negotiate a six-year contract, Rutgers men’s basketball coach Eddie Jordan now finds himself urging fans to be patient as his critical third year at the helm spirals toward a lost cause.

Former Rutgers coaching great Tom Young told Gannett New Jersey last week that he advised Jordan to push for the extra time afforded by a six-year deal when his protégé returned home to rebuild a scandal-rocked program in April 2013.

It will be interesting to see what happens with Eddie Jordan. I think he might force their hands to fire him, but how many coaches/athletic personnel can the fire and replace? Rice/Jordan/?, Flood/Ash, Pernetti/Hermann/Hobbs.

With their new AD, EJ will probably get an extension (one can only hope) and raise to match his BE instate rival.

Personally I have no problem with any school that pulls the plug on a head coach if he's not getting the job done . Why keep someone as head of a program when his records demonstrates that he doesn't have the tools to succeed.

The only reason would be $$$. If they fire Jordan, in the past two-plus years they would have paid out Rice, Jordan, Flood, Pernetti and Hermann. And then paid salary to Ash, Hobbs and whoever they brought in for hoops.

I think Jordan is owed around the same type of money that we owe Willard. Jordan has been an absolute train wreck. I don't think they have a win vs a top 225 team in the RPI this season. Sounds like they have no recruits for next season. Lost last 3 games in big 10 by 20+. Basketball program has hit rock bottom.

Is Rutgers gonna eat another 2+ million after shelling out money to Rice, Pernetti, Flood and Hermann too? Stringer makes like $1.6 million. Rutgers is such a disaster in athletics. Maybe Ash can turn it around in football but nobody knows. I don't know who can save them in hoops. I also think the Hall has the same issue on who can we find to turn the basketball program around.

What's another $2mil when your athletic budget runs $50+ mil deficits every year? NJ taxpayers will cover it.

Is Rutgers still paying Mike Rice and Fred Hill's salary? And I assume their AD and recently fired football coach are still on the hook with some sort of buyout package.
