There's been a lot of discussion about proposed rule changes by the NCAA.

The one proposal that has not been discussed much which I believe is most significant is the rule concerning Faking Fouls.

Here's the proposal:

The committee discussed the growing issue of players attempting to draw fouls by deceiving officials. The committee proposed a rule that would allow officials to penalize faking fouls during the use of video to review a possible flagrant foul.

This is a big deal because the cheating is out of control and frequently affects the Pirates. These basketball games are turning into soccer matches.

During the NCAA Tournament I noticed that one of the Duke guards sometimes would act as if he was shot during some incidental contact situations. The refs would, of course, call the foul. Not surprisingly, the TV guys said nothing. I'm surprised the refs didn't offer the kid a rubdown and the paramedics.

I hope this rule is adopted and enforced. I have no doubt this rule will help the Pirates.

How about getting better referees who aren't easily fooled??

Whitehead is pretty good at doing this, it should be up to the refs to see this.

Yes. Faking a foul is not cheating anymore than trying to convince reference that thee ball went off the other guy. I am firmly against any regulation re this issue.

It's amazing that no matter the topic, somebody takes a shot at one of our players. It's become almost like a reflex.

Up until this thread I have never heard anything at all about Whitehead doing this. What, you thought you saw him do it once and now you're tagging him with the label... With one exception, I saw every game the kid played in last season. Your comment is flat out wrong.

And yes, 75, faking fouls and taking dives in soccer is cheating. There's a reason soccer has cracked down on the highly unsportsmanlike practice. It's flat out cheating. It's a weasel's way to gain an advantage when you LIE and FAKE an injury to try to get an opponent out of the game.

It is what most players do when closely defended. The foot kick like Hazel used to bother me more, but refs have to make the calls. Going to the replay on this is inane IMO. If we are out of TOS late and a kid fakes an injury, I say good for him, and for us.

Well, your opinion is in the minority. Something is going to be done to stop this practice.

What??? I'm not taking a shot at him, it's a sign of good basketball IQ, trying to put one over on the refs. You need to get out more often, LOL........

It's not cheating to try and get a call. The refs are paid to make the proper calls. o_O
