NYSHORE, how come Mike Tomlin is a running an event to battle the epidemic of fatherlessness and it's devastating effects on the youth?

Strange I thought nuclear families were not important and were a racist mantra for white men. Mike Tomlin is a leader for black men and a great role model.

I don't think it is fair to say that not having a father guarantees you will end up in prison or become a prostitute.

I also think it is inaccurate to believe that a June and Ward Cleaver situation will guarantee your success.

Both my parents lost their father at age 10. It clearly was financially difficult for them but they found their way and raised a family of four.

My dad's siblings all did fine. My mom was an only child.

However my situation is a data point of one and just an anecdote.

The odds are against you if you are born out of wedlock to a young mother with little to no income.

The odds are with you if you are born with married parents with a stable income, decent housing, low crime neighborhood, and good school district. Some form of moral, social, and community influence from church, scouting, sports, etc, will also increase the odds.

Odds don't guarantee anything but I'd rather side with them than against them.

As a charitable and community initiative, our company funds and operates a private K through 6 school. We have taken kids from 2 grades behind in reading and math and have 100% at or above grade level. Beyond reading and math we teach leadership and other life skills. I believe we have drastically increased their odds of success. Most are brown and black and half have ugly family situations.
