We have discussed all the players, the entire supporting staff and most importantly the head coach over the last week plus. Now comes the bottom line. Where does SHU finish in the league?

1-2?

3-4?

5-6?

7-8?

9-10?
 
Gtown & Nova are in a tier by themselves.

Butler & X are in a tier by themselves.

Everyone else is in the next tier except for STJ. Hard to say. I'll go with 5-6. We have to be decent one year, right?
 
My opinion is 5th with an equal chance to move up a spot or down a spot.

There's talent on this team but at this point not enough depth.

At least two of the following players have to contribute in a positive manner for us to maximize our sucess.

IMO and in order

1. Anderson
2. Singh
3. One of Ish, Nzei or Carter

And of course our star players must stay away from injury.
 
3-4 - 5th may be what is more reasonable, but I will go optimistic till I see otherwise.
 
I'm going to say 7-8th.

We have talent on the team but a razor thin margin for error. Like Dan mentioned our starters need to stay completely injury free. Injuries are more likely to happen than not. I really wish we still had Sterling Gibbs for this year.

Our bench is largely unproven and not exactly loaded with 4 and 5 star recruits.

If we had a different head coach I'd say we had a realistic shot at maybe a 3rd or 4th finish. KW hasn't shown me a true ability to lead. We've all talked about his problems recruiting and making adjustments during games but what I'm most worried about this year is his ability to manage the locker room. We've had chemistry problems for awhile now and at the first sign of adversity it seems like the chemistry starts to decrease. Some of KW's press conference and media quotes also drives a lack of chemistry. He also has to feel like his job is on the line but I don't have faith in him not to crack under the pressure.
 
6-8.....I really don't see how this team is much better than last season. Losing Gibbs, no true PG, looks to be a very weak front court and bench, and add in Willard has lost the team the last 3 seasons when the calendar hits February 1st. I'd say we are 50/50 to make the NIT.
 
6-7. Lack of depth really kills this team. There is no other player who can handle the point besides IW. That will prove to be a huge factor.
I expect teams to press us and wear down our starting guards. You will see us in a lot of games only to fade in the second half.

In order to overcome bad coaching, there will have to be major surprises from some players like Carter and Nzei. I think Singh will be productive but he is the only one I am confident of.

Using your categories:

With KW as HC: 7-8 (where experts pick us)

With a good coach: 5-6

We will win games when the key four are meshing and getting minutes. We will lose games when one or two of the four hit foul trouble or close games that KW gets outcoached. Depth (bench) and youth at key positions is a big problem.

If I am reading this correctly, you are suggesting we could finish in 5th,6th,7th,8th,or 9th place. Since no one has said we are finishing 1st or 2nd, giving a range of 5 places out of 8 is very broad.

If I am also reading this correctly, you are predicting we will finish 8th but would finish 5th with the right coach. In my opinion only a few coaches are worth a jump of three full spots. I suggest you tighten your ranges a little.
 
7-8. Other than Delgado and to a lesser extent Desi, our frontcourt is a massive question mark. Our top two guards are very good, the drop off from there is precipitous. And of course we are led by a terrible head coach.
 
Gun to my head right now I say 7. Wouldn't surprise me a bit if it turned out worse than that. Some pieces to really like, nothing but question marks and dubious track records past that.

Your opinion is weak, your thought process flawed and if I am interpreting your reply correctly, you are impetuous and inflexible on this issue. However, we agree that your opinion is your opinion and you will hear nothing further from me on this matter.
 
We'll finish wherever the coaches poll says we'll finish. I always disagree. I'm always disappointed.

So you've added nothing to this thread other than to denigrate hallgrad80's (a very good, knowledgeable poster) opinion.

Seems much weaker to not have an opinion at all than to denigrate an opinion you don't agree with.

Ha ha no worries. Every so often I say something a little pissy about one of 80's lesser posts and he responds in kind. It's kind of our "thing" we have together.

Top seed on day one of the big east tourney unless coaching improves...


If Coach K was our coach, we would be 2nd best team in Big East. I believe we have real talent on this team.
 
8th because of coaching 6 th because they slightly overcome poor coaching. Then the falling year we will be dead last, new coach or not.
 
6th due to coaching.....we could go as high as 4th and as low as 8th depending on the unknowns that others have written about.
 
6 to 8 with a crash and burn late.

If that is true, I do not even want wait for the end of the season.

I no longer have a guess on the finish. It will not be better than fifth, but if there is another implosion, I want the man treated like they treat the rest of us on firing day: you get your half hour to box it up and just walk out the door.

St John's ? Who else? We lost to everyone at the end of last season.

What we might have in talent will be offset by a lack of toughness,lack of teamwork, and the worst coaching staff in the conference. As one announcer said at our BE Tournament humiliation, " Seton Hall has no spirit" .

8-9 place .

64 hit the nail on the head. It looks like the summer has erased the painful reality of this programs situation. There is no way we finish higher than 8th.
