WATCH Seton Hall vs. Rider (1/15, 5 PM)

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J.
- Seton Hall swimming & diving program is set to take on in-state rival Rider on Friday, January 15 and for the first time ever, the Pirates’ home meet will be streamed live on the Pirate Sports Network.

With start time scheduled for 5:00 p.m., the action from Arthur E. Imperatore Natatorium can be seen, for FREE, on www.PirateSportsNet.tv.

Both Seton Hall squads got off the second half of the schedule off to a rousing start with convincing victories at Iona and on Friday the Pirates will return home where the two teams have combined for just one loss since the beginning of last season.

Following a 2014-15 season in which 18 Pirates collectively took home a total of 41 All-BIG EAST awards, The Hall is once again at the forefront of the league rankings with February’s conference championship fast approaching.

Each one of the six All-Conference performers on the women’s side last year, including four-time diving champion Gabby Signorelli (Massapequa, N.Y.), returned for the 2015-16 campaign and have helped the team to six victories thus far this season.

On the men’s side, the streaking Pirates are now winners of five-straight and have positioned themselves as a legitimate threat to contend for the program’s first-ever BIG EAST team title.

Sophomores Noah Yanchulis (Arnold, Md.) and Matt Zebrowski (Sayreville, N.J.) each won individual BIG EAST titles as freshmen and continue to lead a young core that has transformed The Hall into one of the deepest teams in the league.

Entering the second week of January, the Seton Hall men have posted the top mark in the conference in seven different individual events with Yanchulis ranking as the top seed in the 200-free while freshman Kyle Nash (Katy, Texas) stands as the top 200-fly performer and fellow newcomer David Rowe (Cherry Hill, N.J.) owns the league’s fastest 100-free and 100-fly marks.

A two-time BIG EAST Men’s Swimming & Diving Athlete of the Week selection, freshman Lior Grubert (Yehud-Monosson, Israel) headlines the conference rankings in three events (200-free, 1,650-free, 200-IM).

Perennially one of the top teams in the MAAC, Rider comes to South Orange as defending conference champions on the men’s side and posted another top-three finish in women’s competition last year as well.

Admittance is free to all Seton Hall swimming & diving home events but those planning to tune in Friday’s live stream can catch all the action live beginning at 5:00 pm with further coverage available on Twitter @SHUSwimDive

NEW YORK – Seton Hall sophomore Noah Yanchulis (Arnold, Md.) has been named the first BIG EAST Male Swimming & Diving Athlete of the Week of 2016, the conference office announced on Tuesday afternoon.

It is the second weekly honor of Yanchulis’ career after he earned the recognition just a month into his freshman season – one that concluded with an individual conference title in the 200-free. The announcement also marks the third time this season that a Pirate has been tabbed as the league’s top performer as freshman Lior Grubert (Yehud-Monosson, Israel) previously took home the award twice in November (11/10, 11/24).

In the first meet back from an extended layoff that featured a training trip to Ponce, Puerto Rico, Yanchulis helped spearhead a 161-113 Seton Hall victory at Iona with a pair of wins in the 200-free and 200-breast.

The Arnold native led wire-to-wire in both, securing the top spot in the 200-free with a time of 1:42.18 and later posting a winning time of 2:10.58 in the breaststroke event. The sophomore now owns 10 individual first-place finishes on the season and has recorded multiple wins at four different meets.

With just over a month remaining until the 2016 BIG EAST Championships, Yanchulis ranks as the top seed in the BIG EAST in the 200-free with a season-best time of 1:39.74 in a win at the Patriot Invitational to close the fall.

In relay competition against the Gaels, Yanchulis also swam the anchor leg on a victorious 200-medley squad as he combined with Grubert, sophomore Sean Sali (Bridgewater, N.J.) and freshman David Rowe (Cherry Hill, N.J.) to post a time of 1:35.74.

Yanchulis and the rest of the Pirates will return to action this Friday, January 15 when Rider visits South Orange. Start-time is set for 5:00 p.m. and for the first time ever; the meet will be streamed live and for free on www.PirateSportsNet.tv
