NAT-TRICK!: Tavana Scores Three Times In 3-0 Win Over Binghamton
South Orange, N.J. — Junior
Natalie Tavana (Middletown, Conn.) registered the first hat trick for a Seton Hall women's soccer player since 2006 and the Pirates' defense pitched a shutout as they soundly defeated Binghamton, 3-0, on Thursday at Owen T. Carroll Field.
The Pirates (2-1) last had a player score a hat trick in 2006 when Katie Herr tallied three times in a 4-1 win over South Florida on Sept. 29. Before Herr, the last Seton Hall hat trick belonged to Kelly Smith, who scored three goals in the BIG EAST Tournament quarterfinals against Syracuse on Nov. 2, 1999
How It Happened
After a fairly even first 15 minutes where both sides put up three shots on goal, Tavana struck first with her second goal of the season off of a pass from classmate
Rachel Gerrie (Littleton, Colo.).
Binghamton could not handle the Pirates pressure in defensive third and it led to quality chances for the Pirates. In the 34th minute, Tavana converted on her second tally of the contest following her initial shot taken with her right foot that was saved. She rebounded the initial stop and finished with her left foot that made it 2-0 Pirates at the half.
The Bearcats came out strong in the second half as they produced three corner kicks and a couple of quality changes through the first 15 minutes of the second half. However, the Pirates regained momentum and urged Tavana to cash on her third goal. She put up two shots in the second half before senior
Skyler Matusz (Kearny, N.J.) passed a through ball to junior
Sophie Liston (Limerick, Ireland) who back-heeled a pass to a gliding Tavana, who used her left foot again to find the back of the net.
Inside the Box Score
