South Orange, N.J. — The Seton Hall women's soccer team posted a season-high four goals in its convincing 4-0 winning result over Le Moyne on Sunday afternoon at Owen T. Carroll Field.
Junior
Natalie Tavana (Middletown, Conn.) finished with a brace, giving her seven goals this season and 12 career goals. Her seven scores are tied for seventh in a single season in program history and is the first Pirate since Katie Ritter in 2010 to tally seven times. The Pirates move to 4-3-1 on the season and 3-1 at Owen T. Carroll Field in 2023.
How It Happened
The Pirates dominated possession from kick off but had only three shots to show for it. Le Moyne posted two shots of their own including a shot on target. Before the 20th minute, Junior
Phoebe Hampson (Chesire, England) won a 50-50 ball that eventually got to the feet of Tavana. She found
Skyler Matusz (Kearny, N.J.) in the 18-yard box who used her right foot to sending a driving shot to the lower left-hand corner of the goal, giving Seton Hall a 1-0 lead.
Two minutes later, Tavana had possession at the top of the box and attracted the attention of multiple Le Moyne defenders. She was able to draw a foul, took the free kick and drove a shot on goal that hit the crossbar and went past the goal line for the Pirates' second tally of the game.
In the second half, junior
Sophie Liston (Newcastle West, Ireland) found a streaking Tavana at the front of the build up and scored with her left foot for her second goal of the contest. Checking into a game for the first time this season, senior
Riley Balser (Coral Springs, Fla.) posted her first shot of the season in the 83rd minute that was saved. In the 87th however, she found another opportunity to score and she converted, scoring her first career goal that extended Seton Hall's lead to 4-0.
