I just watched Morning Joe with an interview with Gary Johnson. He was asked what are you going to do with Aleppo? Johnson replied, "What is Aleppo?" Wow, a guy who is running for President doesn't even know the center of the refugee crisis in Syria is baffling.

You would think if there was ever a third party candidate that could win, this would be the cycle. I was hoping Johnson would be that guy, but he has been underwhelming thus far in getting any kind of traction. I did hear a radio ad this morning that was geared toward millenials, but the Aleppo comment may be one reason he hasn't put himself out there.

The electorate have overwhelmingly rejected the Libertarian and Green Parties for multiple Presidential cycles. The modest increase in their polling numbers this year has little to do with their political platform getting traction with the populace. It is a protest vote (or voting your conscience, if you will) against the two most unpopular Presidential candidates in history.

I agree with a lot in this post. Johnson seemed much more polished and direct on his policies and campaign in 2012. I thought with four years to build on what he did in 2012, the increased ease and influence of social media, and two major party candidates with high unfavorable ratings that Johnson would be able to carve out more of a foothold. Bernie and his supporters gave a pretty good road map on how to use social media to spread the word against the odds-on favorite.

Not knowing the actual city of Aleppo isn't the worst thing in the world, but his answer after being told what it is showed that he was either flustered considerably by the question or doesn't know what is happening in Syria. He's running for president and wants to break up the two party system and has to be ready for questions on such a hot-button issue. I know his policy on foreign affairs is to be a non-interventionist, but that's not an option right now with Syria for the president.

Johnson has disappointed me a bit lately. First when his running mate said they would nominate supreme court judges in the mold of Stephen Breyer. More recently when he chastised a TV anchor for using the term "illegal immigrant." Um, that's EXACTLY what they are. If you come here illegally, you are an illegal immigrant. Duh!! He said it was degrading to hispanics. Well, that's a bit racially presumptuous, it's NOT just hispanics.

He still better than either of the two major party dolts.
