Gassed Team

Yeah but nobody was moving at the end. Everyone grabbing their shorts making lazy plays no burst to balls. Ugly.

we weren’t gassed. If we were it would’ve showed up on defense. There was no straw to stir the drink tonight.

I don’t think we were gassed but we got out toughed and that cannot happen. They bullied us the last 10 minutes. Teams body language was also shit the whole game

It did show up on defense. Providence shot 45% in our building.
We turned them over a bunch. For the most part we got out and guarded shooters. Points off turnovers was 21-9. They just beat us in the paint. Oduro ruled the paint not because we were gassed. He was just the man tonight. Their bigs used better footwork on the blocks and did a nice job using the rim to protect from shot blocks. That’s how you shoot 45% in the opponents building

Was it possible to beat Providence without KR?Yes, but highly unlikely.Let's hope he's not out for an extended period of time.

And .557 from 2 against, which going in we were strong in BE play. To our .327. Shocking splits but I felt we looked sluggish on positioning, lift, Davis didn’t have his quick trigger. Bediako was in recovery mode a lot losing position. And we weren’t recovering on defense the same way.

The OR’s helped but even that exerts a lot for a thin team down one of the top usage players.

I was only able to listen to the game because of class, but leave it to the worst foul shooting team in the Big East to only miss one playing us. 🙄 Hopefully Richmond gets better soon!

Opponents are shooting 77.4% from the line against Seton Hall this year. Only two teams in the country (Hampton & Boston College) have worse luck in this regard. The national median this year is currently 71.6%.

This is the eighth year in a row where SH opponents are shooting over 70% from the line. More often than not, well over 70%:

2022-23: 73.1% (SH #265 in free throw "defense")
2021-22: 77.3% (#355)
2020-21: 75.1% (#324)
2019-20: 70.1% (#138)
2018-19: 74.2% (#331)
2017-18: 72.4% (#237)
2016-17: 71.9% (#260)

The last time opponents shot less than 70% from the line against Seton Hall was the 2015-16 season. A remarkable stretch of bad luck.

There was a defensive rebound near the end of the game that we let hit the floor before Wusu finally grabbed it. A bunch of guys just looking around waiting for someone to go get it. I haven’t seen that from our guys this year. Blame it on triple overtime or blame it on something else but we didn’t play our style of ball, with or without Kadary. Can’t blame the crowd. Not the first time we’ve played in front of a weak crowd. Something stinks.

Absolutely. And some of the feeble possessions around the 7-5 min mark of the second 2nd half by our leaders - Bediako, Davis, Addae-Wusu - looked totally off from what we’re used to. I don’t think it’s a coincidence they all looked like that.

Hey, it happens in sports. I’ve been part of plenty of good teams where you’re trying everything to get the motor up but they’re human and ends up sluggish all around for a game here or there.

All teams are different. They play a much different style of basketball and were at full strength.
I suspect the Creighton players, generally speaking, are in better cardio shape that we are. That team is built to play at a high tempo. They're probably better equipped to survive a game like last Saturday's than we are. Even on Tuesday, their bench played a grand total of 28 minutes.

I'll throw this log on the fire. You can be gassed mentally as well as physically. In fact, it likely goes hand-in-hand as your focus starts to waver. I think it's clear we hit a wall in the middle of the second half.

At 12:07 Dawes hit a three to put us ahead 51-41. From that point forward, we shot 4-21 from the floor. Dawes made layups at 10:22 and 8:37 remaining respectively, Coleman a layup at 4:27 and another at :30 seconds. We shot 11-29 in the second half (after starting 7-8) and got only one basket from someone other than Dawes and Coleman. Davis made a dunk at 17:34 mark.

Coincidentally, Dawes is probably our most physically fit player from a cardio standpoint and Coleman played far fewer minutes on Saturday than our other four starters on Wednesday.

Overall we were 21-65 (32.3%). Take out eight hot minutes (mostly fueled by two players) and we shot 14-57 (24.6%)

Hopefully, it was just a one game funk. They now can be mentally prepared to play without Richmond if that is indeed the case. The guys have to pick up for their injured leader in this one. I'd say Dawes did his part but missed some key shots. Wusu should be better and can add to the equation, taking some stress off the offense. Coleman played a nice assertive game at home and now has to do it on the road. You saw some moments of a good player in the making against Providence. I'd like to see Sha use the Bediako/EHE duo more as a combo as far as minute allocation. Brown needs to get some minutes because it's necessary if Richmond is out. If the game is not going well, it could be an opportunity to get him some prep time for the DePaul game. It would be a good sign if they can give Marquette a tough game.

This is the most down in the weeds analysis I’ve seen in a while. I tip my hat to your hard work. Bad luck indeed. Talk about a variable you can’t control.

Amazing but no surprise lol

In addition to Kadary’s loss, the lack of a backup also means we have to slide out best shooter and only outside threat teams prepare for to PG. Double whammy.

If they played without Alexander I bet they would have looked a lot different. Especially if he backed out right before the game.
Crazy that a team missing its best player and frontrunner for BE POY had a team looking more gassed than usual as its already overworked starting lineup had to pick up the slack.
