SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. –Seton Hall senior D’Yonna Riley (Washingtonville, N.Y.) equalized in the 86th minute to send Thursday’s BIG EAST women’s soccer contest between The Hall and Creighton into extra time but the Bluejays answered with a goal in the last two minutes of the first overtime to secure a hard-fought 3-2 result.

The Pirates (2-9-2, 1-3-0 BIG EAST) got on the board first when senior Amanda Gulli (Toms River, N.J.) got on the end of a well-weighted cross from freshman Eva Gonzalez (Mesquite, Texas) in the 11th minute but Creighton (10-5-0, 2-2-0 BIG EAST) responded within the next 10 minutes, setting the stage for what was a back-and-forth affair.

Bluejays’ leading scorer Lauren Sullivan pounced on a loose ball inside the Seton Hall area and drove home her eight goal of the season, pulling the visitors level with just over 20 minutes gone.

CU jumped out in front in the 33rd minute when a lofted free kick from Jill Richgels found its way over the hands of Seton Hall keeper Illissa Blackshear (West Orange, N.J.) and underneath the crossbar to give the Bluejays a 2-1 advantage.

The lead was very nearly short-lived as Gulli just missed erasing the gap in the 35th when her close-range attempt – which was set up by a slick back heel from freshman Delaney Suarez (Bergenfield, N.J.) rang back off the post.

With the score still at 2-1, junior Cathy Chukuka (Marlboro, N.J.) forced Creighton keeper Erin Scott into action in the 67th minute, firing an attempt on frame that was pushed up into the crossbar.

Riley had a near miss of her own in the 56th when she fired high after a nice bit of combination play from Gonzalez, Suarez and classmate Lauren Dao (Collegeville, Pa.), but the senior came up with the late equalizer when her long range effort skipped over a diving Scott inside the last five minutes of regulation.

The Washingtonville product forced another save from Scott prior to extra time but with less than two minutes remaining in the first overtime, Sullivan made an incisive run into the attacking third and played in a lead pass for Alyssa Jara who tallied the winner.

Turning Point

Sullivan carried the ball from the midfield stripe into the attacking third, creating the space to play in Jara
