N.J. Republican chairman running for governor
Republican State Committee Chairman Doug Steinhardt will run in the GOP primary to challenge Gov. Phil Murphy.
Now do any have the cachet of chris christie from 12 years ago?
Wasnt he in the mix last time when Kim G got the nod?I have seen Jack Chiaterilli speak on a few occasions. Smart guy and charismatic. However, no name recognition. I kind of seeing him him do what McGreevey did when he ran against Whitman. Do a very good campaign and make his name known so he can be the front runner next time.
You have no idea what you are talking about. Republicans and Democrats have been switching the governor for 50 years since Brendan Byrne. Kean, Whitman Christie. That's 24 years of a Republican being the governor in NJ.. The reason we are broke is because there are 535 (?) municipalities. A ridiculousness of duplication of services between courts, staff, police, fire. And of course schools which make up at least 50% of your property taxes. You need a really unpopular democratic governor for a republican to have chance to succeed him.We are such public employee union state which is one of the main reasons we are broke that the money they throw to democratic politicians is hard to overcome. With open borders coming exodus from New Jersey will accelerate since taxes can only go up.When you hear rumors of Goldham Sachs considering Florida for their asset management group shows vulnerability of NY and NJ.

The people who run unions are disproportionately powerful as opposed to whom?? CEO’s of Corporations, hedge funds managers, Norcross? Koch brothers medical lobby? Not with unionized labor, but with the people who run those unions and how disproportionately powerful they are.

Are you suggesting that any of our republican governors are conservative? We are as liberal as any state. In NJ we don’t have enough tax payers to cover our liabilities which stem from unions as you somewhat ironically pointed out. Thanks again for reminding me why I don’t support any liberal platform anymore. You have no idea what you are talking about. With regard to what the state owes with pensions, it started with Whitman "borrowed" money from the pension fund to cover shortages in the budget and then never contributing what the State owed again. That continues until this very day although at least Christie and Murphy have made contributions albeit not the full amount. Up until Whitman, the NJ pension fund was well-funded.
I responded to Odwd description of what occurred. In typical fashion you want to change the parameters. But, definitions of what is conservative is something relative. There were indeed Republican governors in NJ. How you want to describe them on the conservative scale is up to you. If you do not describe any of them as conservative, I guess you didn't vote for any of them or any other NJ Republican since they would be too "liberal".Are you suggesting that any of our republican governors are conservative? You don’t need to amend the constitution to consolidate services. I didn’t say unions are bad. I said that they are unfunded or underfunded liabilities. sentences 1 and 3 are completely accurate. Let’s see what you come up with but please also remind me why you feel it necessary to bring Trump into this?I responded to Odwd description of what occurred. Unfortunately you did not grasp what I wrote and want to continue the mantra of the "union bad". But you ignored what I said was the real problem and that was the over 500 municipalities. This is not a union issue but a constitutional issue. Namely "home rule". Home Rule is neither a democrat problem nor a republican problem. It is a human nature problem that we hate to give up power even if for the greater good. That is the real issue is in this state. But keep on saying it is the unions. You say enough of times, you may even convince others to its "truth". Trump pulls that trick all time and is doing it now.

Forgive my ignorance- what’s TDS?Cern has a major case of TDS. Brings him into every post whether he has something to do with it or not.
Kinda funny. I think everyone becomes deranged by trumps rhetoric ....but most can’t understand how a significant part of the population can differentiate his rhetoric with his ideology which is essentially that of an an old time union democratTrump derangement syndrome

This is also a big reason why Kim G never had a fair chance, in wake of Christie, BridgegateIt's an important distinction because Murphy will be re-elected, and part of the reason is that he's simply a Democrat, and in the wake of Trump, that's a problem for their opponents.
