Good one by The Nation: what is the Dems ID

Good analysis. Trump is an incompetent executive and a boor but he has a bond, a gut level connection, with blue color, working class Americans because he stood up to China, scraped NAFTA, and generally attacked unfettered free trade and immigration which these voters viewed as the reasons for job losses in manufacturing and other middle class jobs.

These voters used to be a key component of the Democratic coalition but as we all know thay were drifting away. After Trump they are staying with the Republicans. While many of his policies on these issues were not well thought out or implemented he did get unemployment down to 3.5%. Without Covid he had a decent shot at reelection.

What's also important to realize is that both parties lack a passionate base as they have gone to polarized opposites on every issue and try to create division on each issue...no one thinks that way. Instead of identity politics and division, both parties should be trying to appeal to working Americans with social policies that resonate with them. Most people that get up everyday, just want stability, opportunity in their career and safety for their family. Trump had a message that resonated with those in that group that felt disenfranchised by the party establishments.

It is interesting to see that Biden's first picks for his team are long term, safe choices that he has relationships with. I'm sure the progressive Bernie Bro end of the Dems are seething, but he needed to do this to win back the middle ground. It will remain to be seen, but I thought Biden's best strategy was to go moderate which he appears to be doing.

Covid ,MSM,and Social Media against him and he still got 48% of the vote,Trump did remarkable even if the blind haters will not acknowledge.Obama 2.0 for at least 4 years.Climate nuts will love gasbag Kerry, Iran will get sanctions lifted because they will promise not to go nuculear,China becomes the new superpower since Biden doesn’t consider them a competitor and he doesn’t want to rain on Hunter’s deals.

I believe Mr. Biden will be a 1 term president.
No kidding. I think he will be 78 when he gets sworn in. He is a transitional figure to whatever comes next and is exactly what we need now at least in terms of temperament and comportment.

Though I agree with Radeccio, I am sure Biden right now is not thinking of himself as a one-termer.
And isn't it ironic that McConnell in 2008 said his goal was to make Obama a one-term president, while in reality he contributed mightily to accomplishing that goal with Trump; though the latter needed little help.
Not trying to throw salt on any wounds---- really, but I cannot imagine what a second Trump term would look like.
