GOP McCarthy

I still think he gets it as well. He’ll make the deal he needs to make to get there.

What kind of integrity does house gop have left?

Hores trading? You mean like exactly what happened previously with Pelosi and Gottheimer's group of dems?

I just hope they are all divided and little governing gets done in DC.

If dems get Jordan they may wish they got McCarthy.
Jordan its not the gig for him...he doesnt do ribbon cutting ceremonies and 25k plate dinner events...plus he would be the committee chair for house judiciary he sees that as a great thrill

Had devin nunes not left for failing trump platform he would have been great compromise candidate for speaker

I think this is set up for Scalice to take the gavel. The Dems are in a tricky spot. Do they help McCarthy because the alternative could be way worse. Or do they just let the Republicans look horrible for awhile but eventually they will get someone and stay out of the mess?

Perhaps they just think they can get lucky by some R's voting present and then they can get the Speakership, but the R's aren't that dumb,

I'll be honest, I assumed they would send a message in the first few ballots... but this is silly now. How did they not figure this out by now.

This is an embarrassment for McCarthy. It’s not about policy; it’s about his leadership. At some point he’s going to remove his name from consideration or just take the slow drip of a public beating.

I think it's a great exercise in our system of government. Our institutions are working. Nice to see someone actually have to earn it instead of being rubber stamped.

They had two months to figure this out though.
If the votes against McCarthy are really this unmovable then he needs to either work something out with Dems or bow out and he probably should have taken one of those two paths a while ago.

It was know for the last year plus that the house was going to flip. Gop thought it would be a massive red wave but it wasn't. They had conference meetings on leadership and nominations in nov before thanksgiving there was consensus that mccarthy was the lead but didnt have 218 then or now or maybe ever.

Six straight L's. Better make a deal or he'll be approaching Georgetown soon!

Where are you seeing that?

There is a house conference gop call at 1015 that is being moderated by existing leadership.
More likely than not gaetz, biggs, good, boebert remain never kevins, others will change imho, ken buck not present today...key item a speaker needs to be in place or scheduled payroll cant occur for the 434 and their staffs next friday

One thing about Nancy Pelosi, love her or hate her, she always knew whether or not she had the votes. Very different now with McCarthy and doesn't bode well for him when it comes to legislation even if he is elected Speaker.

Up to 214...no buck or hunt, intent for 10pm vote...need to flip crain and rosendale

In the end, I think the outcome is better than had they just done a single vote with all the minions in -line. I agree with many of the things that were being demanded. This process prevented a same-old-same-old wherein control shifts to the other party and we still get the same BS.

We are at least a little closer to the notion that we representatives to Congress to represent us as opposed to becoming pawns in a very thick political circus with power brokers that have in Congress way too long. We have along way to go but this was a good, albeit painful start.

Of the many demands made by the Republican holdouts, a vote on term limits was one up toward the top of the list. Hopefully they actually pass some limits and not just hold a sham vote.

Let’s see how many of these wack jobs will get on important committee assignments like Majorie Taylor Greene? McCarthy must have given up a lot. This was not an earned Speakership. It was a paid ransom. The effects will not be known until much later

Do you seriously thing Greene is going to get a committee chair?

And lets not forget the wack jobs on your side. AOC, the rest of the squad, Maxine, et al.

There was healthy reset of how congress operates and I think overall it was a good thing.

She was promised something and we will find out what soon. But please stop the MTG is like AOC. I don’t like AOC politics but she is not a wack job talking about Jewish lasers , Vegas shooting was staged, 9/11 conspiracist, QAnon follower.

Doesn’t really seem that different other than the public shaming of the new speaker. Power brokers wanted McCarthy and ultimately did what it takes to get the deal done. Was definitely more of a circus event than normal. If that’s a good thing remains to be seen.

I didn’t watch much but to see both parties acting like trained seals sitting, standing with contrived ovations…smh
