Even if he hasn't pulled a rabbit out of a hat, I think his team meeting after the Creighton debacle will be perceived as the turning point of the season.

He's a tough MFer man. Not the most skilled guy I've ever seen, but the kid leaves everything on the floor. Always loved playing with kids like that. I screw up, and he'll grab the rebound or take the charge that gets us the ball back.

He's on my all glue guy team.

Gibbs v Gordon?
A solid team player who understands what it takes to win and cares about defense, or a me first player trying to get his?
No doubt Gibbs is a more explosive player with more our basketball skill, but give me Gordon over Gibbs

This isn't about Gordon vs Gibbs. It's more about what we had on our roster and the missing piece we needed. Gordon just happens to be the missing piece. Take the roster that Gonzo had with only 1 true deep threat, I'd take Gibbs every time. Both young men happen to be at good places for themselves right now. Although it would be interesting Seton Hall vs UConn 1st round tournament game.

Flash Gordon, Savior of the Universe! Flash, he'll save every one of us.

Great game at both ends of the court. Hits the boards and takes a hit. Good team player.

I really cannot think of a guard's defense effecting a game as much as Derrick's yesterday. His man defense was utterly tough, And then he is disrupting the passing lanes in his spare time, while squeezing a rebound here and there.

He played out of his mind last night. When the second half started, the first four minutes GTown was playing well. Then coach put Derrick in and he upped the ante. I thought he played really great D in the first half. Well he played even harder in the second and Willard could not keep him out of the game the rest of the way. He was everywhere. That one rebound he got when he stumbled into the middle to grab it from way out on the wing was crazy. He had Smith-Rivera questioning whether he should try and penetrate or not because of his D. Kid played great. Absolutely his best game as a Pirate. And at the perfect time when Isaiah and Khadeen were struggling. Great game Derrick!!!

Derrick answers the bell. He is not the best player, but he is the guy that makes the others around him better. He is totally unselfish and steps up when he is needed and boy did we need him last night. Also he took some brutal hacks and bounced right back. I saw some calls last night that were so ticky tacky and worse were the non calls that were assaults if they happened on the street and were not even seen ( or worse seen and ignored). JT111 seems to operate with that "beat em up" strategy and it cuts into those teams who do not have the mental as well as physical toughness to withstand it. Last year we would have folded. This year, we are hardened. Derrick is like nails. Even when our guys like isaiah have tough nights, I think IW has developed the mental toughness to not let it get to him. Having Derrick makes that easier to happen. I will take Ish and Derrick any day on my "all lunch pail" team. Love those kids.

During the marquette game the announcer mentioned that this year's pirate team doesn't mind passing the ball this year because they know they will get it back. I viewed that as a shot at Gibbs, and a deserving one at that.

I always like watching team players like Gordon over slightly more talented but far less team oriented players like Gibbs. I think that has a huge effect on the team this year. These guys are playing with each other, as opposed to competing with each other for stats.

Gibbs led the team in assists per game last year. Sharing the basketball started improving when Willard bench IW in the WSU game. Next game vs USF you could see the emphasis put on IW sharing the ball. It was a team problem last year and the first part of this year. The issue wasn't caused by Gibbs. I love having Gordon on our team but I have no interest in reading negative stuff about Gibbs

Agree.....I don't understand why there is such much negativity with Gibbs. I thought he was fantastic for us in his 2 years here (barring the Arch forearm/punch incident). It was also Willard's best recruit/transfer that he gotten 'til that point in time.

I think Gibbs statement he was coming back and then bailed might have something to do with the negative feelings towards him.

Depends what team is behind you, D.G. is a perfect fit for this team. If you need a star player and a scorer, Gibbs probably fits that role.
I couldn't be happier D. Gordon is a Pirate!

SG was a terrific scorer and a below average defender and a poor teammate. That said, he is a nice young man off the court.
My opinion as well.

Always forthright with the media. He never ducked the tough questions. Gibbs had a very likable personality and God knows how many big plays he made on offense for the Pirates.

The downside was he just didn't get along with the NY guys. Whose fault was that? Hard to say since we're not in the locker room. Best guess is what I have been saying for nearly the last year....there was plenty of blame to go around.

Bottom line, it was Gibbs who went after Whitehead in the huddle last year and as the leader of the team he should have set a better example.

He's gone now and I wish him well. Hard to root for his team but not so hard to root for him. At least not for me.

Ish and Derrick on the all lunch pail gang - just love it, been saying that myself. Love rooting for them.

I've never held it against Gibbs for his frustration last year once it became apparent the dynamic was stacked against him. It wasn't fair, and though he should be held accountable for his part, it was never a situation he could win - one "camp" plus a coach aligned with that camp stirring discord against one guy (well, two for a while, but Sina's situation was so different), the returning and unquestioned star of the team - who in Gibbs' shoes could've emerged from that unharmed?

It would've been phenomenal to have had Gordon on last year's team, an upperclassman leader whose motives wouldn't have been questioned, as he is not at all defined by statistics. It is Gordon who has made the biggest difference on the team this year, especially when the seams of team chemistry were weakening.
