Gritty, Good Win!

Hopefully we have enough in the tank for Saturday. Starters are logging some minutes. We owe Marquette for the beating they laid on us last year. Tonight was old school big East game, ugly but at the same time fun to watch.
I really loath Marquette, in a sports sense. I hope we have a good game plan and dominate them. For some reason we do not match up well with their players/style of play.

They need to seize the moment and find a way against Marquette. Moving forward Sha has to manage that pre 8 minutes to go segment of the game in a different fashion. Richmond's efficiency goes way down at that point. Dawes struggled early in that game and maybe he should have injected Sanders there. On the other hand, Dawes produced points when they really needed it. Not sure this formula can work all the time especially when you are demanding so much effort on defense. I thought EHE helped the cause on the defensive end and may have gone unnoticed.

For this team it does. If we are talking about 19-20 or some past groups, I get your point.
I get your meaning, but I’m thinking more in terms of Sha and the culture he wants to build.

He is still getting a handle on the pressures and spotlight of coaching a Power 6 team.

I will take any win with this group. I don’t think a game like this impacts our culture all that much when the 5 guys who scored all the points aren’t going to be here next season, except maybe one. But yes this is new terrain for Sha in many respects so him winning a nail biter has more value than last season when we simply shot out-of-our-minds good in the Friartown destruction.

My favorite part is that as a diehard Yanks fan, I know most if not all that crowd tonight are Sox fans. And so having them leave that arena with a L is sooooooo sweeeettt.

That’s the way we got to play. I was not too excited the way we beat Missouri because we can’t sustain that level of play to beat teams in that fashion. This is who we are and we can beat some damn good teams mucking it up.

Same here. Going back to the Powell years, the epic at MSG. Worse now with Shaka even.
The foul fest game at MSG, their fans were as bad as their players. Came within minutes of missing the last train out of the city. Ugliest game I can remember other than the NIT game at the Rock where my own team disgusted me.

Such a bizarre team. Usually SHU and a lot of other teams play down to their opponents. We are clearly playing up to the opponents level.

I will say Wusu is growing on me, although I still don’t think he’s a great match for this roster.

No idea how you win a road game against a top 25 team with zero bench points and only 1 player registering an assist.

Haven’t missed too many BET games in the last 35 years and that one against Marquette was as bad as it gets. A lot of my hatred left when they fired the coach.

PC only shot 4/17 from 3 but we looked like we defended it and got out better than usual.
Exactly. They weren’t getting good shooters, good looks and guys were just off. Seton hall was making them shoot difficult shots. Much better than defense forcing tough shots than just 2 weeks ago against UConn who I felt got good looks but didn’t knock them down.

Yes and no. Really hard to put 2 strong defensive efforts back to back. Seen enough college players run out of gas over the years. Happens all the time when teams fight to come back from a deficit. I hear what you are saying though but we need another player on the bench to play some meaningful minutes. Long season so maybe somebody steps up.

I was at the game. 7th row by the Friar basket. Great win. This was one of the most physical games I’ve seen in a while. Both teams were beating each other up. Refs let them play and could have called 50+ fouls.

Our guys out toughed them in the second half. Huge defensive stands at the end by Bediako. Addae Wusu was a bull and so was Davis. Kadary was getting good shots all game. First 5 minutes there was no D until both teams settled in. Then the D on both sides was amped up the rest of the game. Huge three by Dawes down the stretch. About ten mins left in the game we were getting most of the 50/50 balls. We got nice minutes from EHE with Bediako in foul trouble. I was yelling to put him back in when EHE got his 4th. From there on Bediako played really tough down low and was key to our win.

Ugly, physical, tough win in a very loud arena. Their crowd without a lot of their students was loud and the stands were packed. They have a solid home crowd and arena and our guys kept answering their run.

Gotta be very happy with this win. Big picture is our starters are solid. Long term we need more from the bench. Sanders did not look good. EHE battled. Coleman played good D but shot an air ball that missed by four feet. His confidence offensively is not there. Needs to go back to slashing to the basket. I hope Hopkins injury isn’t too bad.

Great win for the resume. Let’s build on this.

the defense was outstanding. seems like sha is starting to get these guys buying into what will make them win. i still dont think they are a very good team, but the intensity and havoc they create enable them to win or lose on any given day.

Did you hit Federal Hill after the game to celebrate? If so, where did you go?

In depth analysis of this game not required. We all know the teams strengths and weaknesses.
The uglier the game the better our chance of winning.Great BE road victory.

A great win no matter how you cut it. Winning on that court to a ranked team is incredibly difficult.

This team doesn’t win pretty, but they did enough and battled the whole way and didn’t fold when Providence made their runs.

They can play with anyone in the league, but only if the starters all contribute. Very little margin for error with a lean bench and luck with injuries so far.

Ride the wave.

Making 44% from three might have had something to do with it! Plus holding them under 60 which seems to always work for us. Defense Defense Defense
We were 0-4 going into last night if the score ended under 65. But maybe just maybe our defense is turning a corner. Just happy with an ugly win in the road!
