Jerry C has a new article regarding issues with our new President. Not a good look

Jerry last few lines referring to Hank and basketball program…….

All starts at the top and one has to argue if Hank is the problem….. controversial statement but the school has issues all over

ahh the catholic church and sex abuse. its pretty synonymous these days. grew up catholic, my child wont.
It is not any worse in the Catholic Church and its institutions than in the culture, actuall much better in recent years. There is still much corruption in the Church that needs to be cleaned up, for example McCarrick is the one who put Tobin in Newark. Tobin is of the same ilk as McCarrick.

What, in your opinion, should be done about Reilly?

They all should resign in shame for appointing someone with these questions in his background that were so well known to them. There's absolutely no excuse for someone with his past associations and failures to act as described in the article to be in a position of any consequence. Frankly, the Catholic Church continuously proves itself to be an evil institution in need of being completely burned down and rebuilt.

Thank you Robespierre.

no it is worse. and culture doesn't pretend to be righteous, safe, trustworthy. telling others how to live their lives. havign power over people and children.

this was a matter of when, not if for shu. as a catholic institution.

In that case I also recommend you homeschool your child, don't let him or her participate in any team sports, no scouting organizations, no government programs, no religious organizations of any faith, certainly no overnight camps etc...

Someone in a position like President of a university or its board members should be held to exceptionally high standards including any public perception of wrongdoing of any kind. Service above self interest… always. Pull the plug as soon as possible. We clearly need a clean slate.

nah the church is worse than all of them and is literally marketing themselves as holier than though.

those other orgs aren't covering it up either. sorry.

Any progress we made as a University while Estaban was here has been destroyed. Given what happened with the Nyre situation, how the BoR would select anyone with even a SHRED of controversy is just beyond idiotic. Are they going to somehow claim ignorance to this, given the "Exhaustive" search they put forth?

What a bunch of idiots at the BOR. Also makes you think twice of what happened to Dr. Nyre.

Someone wake me up when we have some good news somewhere

My interpretation of what happened with Nyre was that it was at least 50/50 that he was right. People then have the audacity to question why someone wouldn't be inclined to send the university any more money when its "led" by these kind of decision makers.

Sorry but that's just nowhere near true. The only difference is that when it's the church it's plastered all over the news.

I know Shuttle a long time and I know Shuttle and I do not agree on many things in the politcal and policy landscape but I endorse everything he has published on this thread

This constant stream of bad news about University leaders is dragging SHU down.No wonder alumni are reluctant to donate. What chance does Reilly have to turn the BB program around?Need someone who is not a priest and has a strong private sector background.

They had that with Gabe and Nyre and fumbled each

any defense of the churchs actions turns my stomach. i know of no other once highly respected institution which not only protected known child abusers but sent them to unsuspecting parishes so they could do it again. and used its stature and reputation to protect and conceal till the truth was finally blasted in their face.

Dump Reilly and the B.O.R., and hire INDEPENDENT counsel (not some lawyers connected to the B.O.R.) to conduct a complete investigation into this fiasco.

Here's the problem. There's no body and nobody to hold any of these fools accountable as SHU and the Catholic Church are both incestuous machines. It would take significant donors to realize that those who they hob nob with are the problem, but they all are one and the same so nothing really will ever change.

SHU needs a hip version of U of Miami Foote, took a rinky dink school in a nice part of the country and made it academically flourishing and had success with a lineage of football coaches in a program that didnt exist

Who the hell cares about the BB program when crap like this happens?

The entire university is an embarrassment and it starts with the Board of Regents. All should resign or be replaced. The lack of any transparency/responsibility/accountability is a circus and we all know who the head clown is.

The success of the University and the men's basketball program are closely linked. That's why we should care about both.

I pay absolutely no attention nor have any knowledge of regulations on non-profit universities, but as people with a vested interest in the reputation of our degree, can a suit be brought against the BOR for its failure in its fiduciary responsibility?

I would disagree that they are THAT closely linked so that sexual abuse should be overlooked. This is not about basketball or athletics and this is not Bryan Felt's fault.

In defense of the BOR: they were likely forced by the diocese into this hire due to the ynfolding circumstances that led to the job opening

That being said the BOR needs new blood as we hit our 3rd major headline in the last few years for all the wrong reasons
