Hate to say it, but Creighton game could be a make or break game

Every game from here on out will be big. However, it could come down to us and Creighton as far as making it to The Dance. If we lose, it doesn't necessarily do irreparable damage to our chances, but beating them on their court would be a huge statement for us. Frank

Not a make or break but a good post nonetheless. We need to steal another game or two on the road to teams we don't match up with well somehow. Creighton is one of those teams. Hope the coaches come up with a better game plan than last time and the kids execute. Creighton also needs this game as bad as we do too so it's gonna be a fight. We usually get a bad whistle there so prepare yourself.

Bad match up with Watson leading the way.

One thing I will say. In the post games this year the Hall players talked a lot about two revenge games against Georgia and Wichita State, both who pounded us last season. Obviously they got that revenge, albeit at home.

Yesterday they had similar comments about Creighton. They know they were embarrassed and want to beat them badly.

Let's see what they do on the road.

It's not either/or with respect to the tournament. Both SHU and Creighton can make it. Plus, Georgetown has a better chance at a bid than Creighton. At this point, it doesn't really matter where the wins come from. We just need 6 of them (maybe 5).

That is now how the tournament selection works. Overall body of work compared to all other team's body of work.

It would be a big win because it would be one more win closer to 10 conference wins. Plus, it's a road win against a potential top 75 rpi team.

I think the game plan is very similar to @ Providence. Gordon starts and guards Watson every minute he's on the court. Gordon fights over all screens and doesn't switch. I believe that 100% dose of Gordon will limit Watson's effectiveness and Creighton's overall effectiveness.

Delgado now playing with some renewed confidence and swagger does a better job overall against their bigs.

Agreed. Too much focus on particular games.

Of course all games are important with some being more important than others. But with 10 games to go we are where we should be, 4-4. The next stretch of games. not any one is particular is what's important.

Last night started a run of 4 of 5 at home. We need to go at least 3-2 with 4-1 being optimum.

Beating Creighton is important. They execute fundamental basketball better than we do. Can we double team Watson in spurts? Or create help defense just for him?

I also think pressing Creighton could be beneficial, as Georgetown gave them fits by doing that down the stretch Tuesday.

8 pm prime time game. I am assuming that place is going to be crazy on Saturday. Might be a cool environment to sneak in and steal a game.

He is the catalyst, have to stop him.

I feel fairly confident that we won't see a repeat of the effort in the first Creighton game. I have been pleasantly surprised at the rebound from that game, which was the low-water mark for the season.

It's a make game. If you win it, you are in good shape.
It's not a break game. Even with a loss there is a viable path to the dance.

It won't come down to two teams from the same conference in an either or situation.

Not a make or break game, but very important on how they play. No reason they can't compete
in this one although their system makes it tough.

SHU was certainly flat in that last game vs Creighton at Prudential. I actually think we catch a break with
their loss at GTown. Creighton is the team that has to respond or their season could spiral down much the way
our season melted last year.

This is a tremendous opportunity for the Pirates. A win here has us coming back home with a good deal of momentum
for 3 straight home games.

I felt similarly. You have to pick IW or Gordon, or have Gordon do the second half since he comes off the bench and might have more fire than Watson in the second half. Have to shake Watson up and get him frustrated.

That place is crazy no matter who they pay or when they pay. Nothing to assume. As Bill Murray once said : "that's a fact Jack".

We need to beat them on Saturday. You really don't want to be getting swept by teams at your level. You can only withstand that if they are the top teams doing it to you.

They're coming off a bad loss. They will be focused and ready to play.
Fair enough. I thought their mental-meltdown loss to G-town was going to make them more focused for their home game against us. But the subconscious mind is a funny thing....

They've got a good coach and solid operation out there. Fans always pack the place too, so it's energized. I would think they'd be ready to play and not still sulking. Usually you cannot wait to get back on the court after a tough less, unless you're a soft team. We'll see.

We've had a couple of battles out there the past two seasons since Creighton has joined the league. Think both were one-point decisions; Gibbs beating the buzzer last year and then the game the year before when the ball went through Edwin's hands when Gibbs was suspended.

If we're going to make the tourney, you have to win a few games where you have some pressure on you. We did that with the Providence win. I would say stealing this one so we split the series with another bubble team is a similar level of pressure. Coasting in at 9-9 with Providence being the only conference win you hang your hat on isn't going to be enough.

SHU, Gtown & Creighton are all going to be bubble teams & most likely places 5-7 in the league. I'd say we need to at least split with both of them for bubble considerations, as well as finishing in the top 6 in the conference so we get that first day bye at MSG.

Make or break was back in 2012 when they needed to beat either Rutgers or DePaul to lock up a bid to the dance and they lost both.

It would be nice to get another quality win on Saturday but they are not done if they lose it.

St Johns killed our press last night!

The real question is what does the Head Coach do...what adjustments does Willard actually make... KW was thoroughly out-coached in the first game (before he stated benching folks). He has made strides imo this year, but for me that will be telling. What adjustments are made in the game plan and (when) Creighton does something different given they have a very good HC, how does KW react.

I would do what we did at Providence and start Gordon on Watson and bring Carrington off the bench here. Want Gordon guarding Watson for the majority of the game. Probably going to see the 3 guards, Ish/Nzei, and Delgado. Also, need Delgado to step up his game on Groselle too. He was thoroughly embarrassed in the first meeting. This is a game we can win.

Come out and play like it's win or go home. Play like you don't want to be owned by Creighton.

Exactly! As much as I would love to win at Creighton, there are no must win games until the number of games left are the number of wins we would need.

I would take losing at Creighton but sweeping Butler or Georgetown.

Can't lose to SJU since that would be a bad loss, so we need that plus 4 and I think we are in decent shape on selection Sunday.

Gordon guarding Watson does not work--the last game proved that. Gordon is not quick enough for Watson. The best bet is to set up some traps for Watson so that he cannot penetrate.

To stop Groselle, I would go deep into my bench and tell Anthony, Carter, and Anderson to foul Groselle hard any time he makes a move to the basket. You've got to get into Groselle's head. Let the fouls rack up on our subs. Angel must avoid foul trouble while trying to stay with Groselle. The guards should help front Groselle so he can't get the entry pass.

Was Gordon on Watson last game? If so, then give the task to IW. He's supposed to be one of our best.

Asking for foul trouble on IW as well as wearing him out chasing Watson all over the court due to the way Creighton runs everything through their PG.

Good point. I hope Gordon is up to the task Saturday.

I agree. I see Gtown stealing our bid. creighton is likely off the bubble, but if gtown is on the bubble and has 2 wins against us... laterzzz

We must start the game like a house on fire and quiet the crowd. Need lots of easy baskets. And then not let them back in.
Also must hit those free throws once they start fouling our big guys underneath.
And of course keep the turnovers to a minimum.
Tall order but the beginning of the game will set the tone.

Carrington is probably the only one that could stay with Watson's unique quickness.
