Health by County

healthiest = wealthiest

did tax dollars go to do this extraordinary study

Nothing earth shattering here. Lower income, less educated and minority counties fare worse. Health education a must to prioritize.

Diet and exercise are the two most important things in maintaining the best health you can.

Some things are hereditary and you can't control that.

You don't have to be rich to exercise. Having more income can help with a better diet but you can still eat healthy regardless of your income.

I agree with 85 that education is the key to improving the health of people with less income.

yea but theres a lot of hereditary things out there for a lot of people. cant just gloss over it.

and geez grocery prices nowadays are getting crazy. whats your idea of a healthy snack that is 1) good 2) affordable and 3) doesnt require a long time to prepare?

Celery and hummus
haha this is the one i do.

hummus isnt exactly that great in terms of price and not being loaded to the gills with preservatives. i take time to make my own but its time consuming.

I chose my words carefully. I said the best health you can.

I did not gloss over it.

If you have a hereditary condition then all the more reason to eat right and exercise.

With regard to snacking if you eat three proper meal today you don't need to snack.

That being said if you do snack there are a ton of things you can eat that are healthy. Celery, carrots, cucumbers, bananas, apples, other fruits, nuts, raisins, avocado, fennel....

snacking is proven to be better for you in so many ways. the 3 big meal diet only isnt encouraged.

fruits are good, but outside bananas pretty expensive. nuts are insanely expensive. celery/carrots and hummus/peanut butter is essentially it.

Why do they have to be small?
i was reaponding to the previous poster. 3 normal sized bad as well, believe it or not food is good for you its ok to eat it just depends what you eat. and for me ive specifically been told to eat more throughout the day.

Portion control is essential in the education of eating right. Different eating habits (three meals, in between snacking, intermittent fasting, etc. ) work for different people, but at the end of the day, you have to monitor your overall consumption. No one should be starving themselves, but you can't eat twice as much food as the next person (even if it's healthy) and not expect problems...

its pretty easy. calories in vs calories out. for the most part youll be ok. obv you dont want all your calories to be crap.

with the technology we have im surprised there isnt something to more easily track it. i guess it will always involve you having to record everything yourself. which isnt really doable

apple pb is a good one. but natural pb is different than skippy. do you use the natural stuff? i do but its a struggle with the top half just the oil and the bottom a pb brick 😆

btw ive been on a banana and oatmeal breakfast for about 5 years now. after the 2nd year its a formality

We do that for breakfast Monday thru Friday every week. My wife and I split an apple. I prefer Skippy and she uses the natural PB, drains off the oil when she opens a new jar. Then again she is 100lbs, runs 30 miles a week, and adds another 20 walking or elliptical.

One nice perk about living in Lancaster County is the plethora of roadside unattended farm stands.

They are mostly Amish and Mennonite. They are small stands which offer a variety of freshly harvested vegetables and fruits from the owner's farm. The prices are marked and you leave the cash in a box. Pure honor system.

I drove by one the other day and it was a yeti cooler. Not sure what was inside but likely something that needed to be kept cool.

Prices are generally less expensive than the grocery store. Come August there is nothing like eating corn that was picked a couple of hours before you eat it.
