When rumors of the Pirates not playing against Iona first leaked confirmation was hard to come by with some still thinking the game was on. That is because for a couple of hours the Gazelle Group, the tournaments sponsors, would not accept Seton Hall not playing and went so far as to try and strong arm them by saying they would register the game a forfeit, something they believed they had the power to do. That obviously infuriated the Hall and the two went back and forth until the Group backed off their demand and simply canceled the game. That's when word came out around 4PM or so that the game would not be played.
