High Major Coaches, their agents and special interests have it made

Coach salaries are a complete farce. Their buyouts are ridiculous. Same as corporate CEO's. Not to mention that Jimbo Fisher is unliked by many if not most with whom he has crossed paths.

T A&M thought LSU was going to poach him a few years back.

They should have let them.

College athletic department expenditures are completely out of control. There should be legislation that requires all athletics to be privately funded. This is egregious and out of control. Tax payers and students across the nation should not be subsidizing this stuff. This is beyond insane.

So, booster funded athletics? What could possibly go wrong with that?

You know that legislatures don't actually fund the athletic departments, right? They fund the school and then the school decides how much to spend on athletics, much the same way that private schools make their choices about what to spend on athletics versus what to spend on academics, facilities, etc.

Correct. Boosters, sponsors, etc. (similar to how private schools operate).

State governments absolutely subsidize athletics. Not to pick on Rutgers because this is not unique to them but just for example the state gave ~$25M in tax credits for practice facility and slotted another $100M in support for new facility improvements.

State governments should not be in the business of subsidizing what are now essentially professional sport franchises.
