Since we will be celebrating the anniversary of our nation's birth tomorrow, here is a trivia question for the history buffs amongst you:

Of the 50 states that comprise the USA three of them were independent nations at the time that they were admitted to the Union and granted statehood. Can you name those three states ?

Tom K

You have two of the three. Texas & california but not the third. Hawaii at one time was an independent nation but not when it was admitted to the Union as a state. It was a US terratory for many years before gaining statehood. Any other guesses?

Tom K

CLUE: At the time of the American Revolution this was not one of the 13 colonies. It remained an independent nation but 15 years later they were offered statehood and accepted.

Tom K

ANOTHER CLUE: Most people would wrongly assume that this was one of the original 13 colonies.

You got it 09. Actually you got all three answers. To be honest I would not have known this about Vermont had I not just spent a week in the Green Mountain State. Seems that at the time of the revolution there was a dispute about the ownership of Vermont between New York & New Hampshire. The people of Vermont wanted no part of either colony/state and declared their independence. 15 years later when they were considering joining up with Canada the United States offered them the opportunity to become the 14th state which they accepted.

I got the third with a lot of help from you LOL. That was a very interesting question, I always enjoy trivia like this.
