OK. I saw tonites episode. I guess the Russian is not really a good guy. What are your thoughts on the finale. Does Carrie or Sol or either survive ??? What about the asset in Moscow. Does she really give her up ? It will be the last episode so they can really kill off anyone they want to.

Looking forward to the conclusion. I don’t think she kills Saul... but I also don’t see a happy ending. I have some thoughts but don’t want to throw them out in case people don’t like discussing that stuff.

The more I think of it I note the asset is in NYC at the UN. She did contact Saul with a message. I think she realizes that she may be in trouble and will defect since she is already in NYC.

This is off-topic from Homeland in particular, but does anyone find it tedious to watch any show on normal television now?

The only one I watch that is still broadcasting new episodes that way is Better Call Saul. Just a totally different viewing experience when you can stream versus the constant commercials interrupting things. The streaming is really how the form was meant to be seen anyway.

BCS is great. I do watch a few other week to week shows. I try to save them up on the DVR if possible. I just don't think there's enough content on HBO, Showtime etc to set up a single streaming type platform where all episodes are available at once. Their hit shows are spaced out so you don't go in and out with your subscriptions. And the movies generally suck. No one is keeping HBO to watch Meet the Fockers 52 times.

Re Homeland. It's still entertaining enough but time to come for an end. The plot holes are just crazy and really make no sense. The Carrie/Saul relationship is worth staying tuned in for, though.

Watching “The Pharmacist”, 2 episodes in and excellent.

I agree that there is not enough programming on any of the streaming channels other than Amazon Prime. What is the purpose of HBO adding another channel aside from adding additional charges. I currently only have Showtime because of Homeland. Once the finale airs I will probably drop it. I recently picked up HBO primarily to see the Plot Against America. I read the book about 15 years ago. Different era but I grew up in the same neighborhood as Philip Roth (Newark's Southside). They did a great job recreating that neighborhood and Newark in general as well as the surrounding towns.

Ok just watched it. What did you think?

kind if appropriate to me and ironic as well. I won’t say more in case others haven’t seen it. Great show will be missed.
Ok Billions next week!

I liked the ending... wasn’t what I thought it would be last week. I’m glad they did it this way.

Will be missed by me for sure.

I did see tonight's finale. Strange ending. Certainly not what I expected but it rarely is. I will think about it and post my views tomorrow. Homeland was my favorite show on TV. I will certainly miss it. Now have to find a new favorite.

A lot of things happened in last night's finale that I never expected. First I never thought Carrie would turn in the Russian asset. I thought they would warn her & since she was already on American soil defect. Actually when Saul put on that act on at the UN in the last episode, that's what I thought he was doing namely signaling her that she was in danger. Nor did I think Carrie would come that close to killing Saul. I realize she was trying to prevent all out war but sacrificing our agents and assets is a line that should never be crossed. But as Saul (and the Russian) said this is the nature of the business they are in and death is always a possibility. As to the finish I never thought Carrie defecting to Russia would ever be a possibility. Even if she becomes a mole in the Kremlin I would think that she would be caught very quickly. You know the Russians will watch her very closely.

I did like the finale however and am glad that both Carrie & Saul survived. Question Did Carrie really write a tell all book on the CIA? And was the package she sent to Saul really their first contact in 2 years or were they in contact all along? I guess that was left to conjecture.

What are your thoughts?

Some good thoughts.

First...I too am glad they didnt kill off Carrie and Saul...but could there be a bigger reason for that? Her last words on the note were "more to come"....movie perhaps?

I think they liked the somewhat ironic synergy having started where Carrie is at first taken in by an American traitor...falls for him...then ultimately he meets his fate. Now, she goes to the other side....but plays it for the Americans, and fills the role of the person they just set up to be killed by giving her away.

I too find it hard to believe the Russians would ever trust her...given her history and the engagements she was involved in. Then again it is TV...lol

It seemed as if that was their first contact, given Saul's apparent heart attack, but maybe moreso because Carrie knew she had to lay low if she was ever to become a successful mole. She spend that 2 years convincing the Russians that she could be trusted and didnt want to risk that. perhaps....

I didn't love how it played out when Saul knew Carrie would find out the name. I understand him not wanting to burn her, but once Carrie gets specific and it’s clear she is very close, Saul had the opportunity to save the interpreter.

Other than that, I liked the ending.
I agree the Russians would never trust her, but I think they were just trying to wrap up the idea that Carrie is very good at her job and would be able to play them. A reach, but I think that was their intent.

I think the Book is what Yevgeny was talking about when he was talking about celebrating finishing something, so she did write the tell all book probably in part to gain the trust of the Russians.

Of shows on TV with commercials that I watch regularly, almost never watch live, DVR and then speed through commercials.

Also the Russians knew that she could never return to the USA where she could be tried for treason and the attempted murder (of Saul).

They did a good job of setting up the carrie saul confrontation, remembering what saul said about carrie and thinking, holy shit, she may actually kill him. The book at the end was a little hokey.

My favorite tv drama of all time I think. Sopranos and boardwalk empire up there too, but I looked forward to Homeland more.

Losing ray donovan and homeland, and fiona from shameless too...showtime needs a serious injection.

I agree. Homeland, Sopranos and Boardwalk Empire were probably my 3 favorite TV drama series also. On all three I could not wait for the next episode.

After it was announced RD was cancelled, Liev Schrieber came out and made it sound like there'd be more to come. I don't know why Showtime would kill it with Homeland ending and Shameless going into its last season. The last season did not finish with a typical series ending fashion.

I enjoyed the Homeland finale. Sure it was pretty unrealistic, as was alot of the show. Carrie strolling onto an army base unnoticed, Carrie fleeing to Virgnia then to Isreal after she's been brought up on major charges, Carrie for some reason being in and around NSA/CIA ops after all she's done. Just some silly stuff. But Carrie and Saul were an all time TV pair. I am glad the show didn't end with Saul telling her to go F herself.

I have watched a few Homeland episodes but never committed to watching it all start to finish. Just finished watching Broadchurch. Absolutely loved it! Could not wait for the next episode and the scenery is beautiful. Beyond my expectations. Only three seasons about 8 episodes each (1st was phenominal; 2nd took a few episodes to get going but ended really strong and the 3rd was fantastic). Really enjoyed the two main characters.

Tried watching Ozark (5 shows in) and gave up - it's a crappy take off on Breaking Bad IMO. The plot and characters are all over the place too. So many of my friends said they liked it? Sopranos #1. Breaking Bad #2, Broadchurch #3 my favorites. Billions and The Affair were good too but not in the same class as my first three. Have heard Peaky Blinders is good - any opinions on that one?

I watched the first 2 years of Peaky Blinders. It was good but I did not go back for year 3 yet. The thick British accent made it hard for me to follow.

I really liked how Homeland wrapped up. Carrie prevents war, sacrificed an asset, and became one herself. If that isn’t perfection, I don’t know what is. I am going to miss that show. A lot of time invested in one of my favorite shows of all time. Between Homeland and The Sopranos, those were some incredible years of television. I’ve watched many good shows, but I’m waiting for the next GREAT show like those two.

You've got to watch those kind of shows with captions, trust me. Once you go caption, you never go back. I watch all these shows with captions.

Just binged all 8 seasons of Homeland in the last two months. Agree with pretty much all of the comments on the thread. Great series and excellent cast.
