Tiny Morton worked his way for a chance at an assistant's coaching position at a high major for the last decade and a half, he gets the gig, leaves after one season and now returns to the psal as head coach for lincoln

Maybe, just maybe, what you think is your dream job turns out to be a nightmare. No not KW. The travel and time away from home. Assume he didn't relocate to So. Orange, so add the commute & time away from family and it can take its toll on the home front.

The grass isn't always greener is not that unusual a story.

Ask Bob Hurley Sr why he doesn't want a college job and you may have the same answer. Molding high school kids into men is much more satisfying than the much higher stressful job of an NCAA job. Money isn't everyone's motivating factor in life.

Saw most every game either on TV or computer, the little I saw of Tiny, he didn't seem he wanted to be there...can anyone remark on my insignificant observation?

I watched practice at least once last year, never saw him move from center court opposite sideline or say anything. I did not know how to interpret it. It is what I saw.

It's tough to judge what an assistant coach contributes ,outside of recruiting, in terms of actual game planning , player development and X and O's coaching during games because so much depends on how inclusive the head coach is with respect to the role he allows his assistants to play. I've seen outstanding coaches like Tom Izzo consistently talking to his assistants during a game and other coaches have almost no discussions with their assistants during games . You could see Jim Calhoun always talking to Blaney and Blaney would not be reluctant to point something out during a game to Calhoun as another example.

How Willard deals with his assistants and what role he envisions for them I'll leave for another day or for others to comment on.
.

Some times assistant coaches are quiet, sometimes they are too hands on.

Seton Hall got what it paid for and presumably both sides are happy.

I've never seen KW consult with his assistant coaches at a time out.
With Tony B every time out is a summit meeting with his coaches . And then he talks to the players.

What will really be interesting to see is the relationship between Seton Hall and Lincoln's high profile student athletes. Will we have a chance with them or will we be shut out? There is no high school coach out there with better insight into the inner workings of Seton Hall basketball than Tiny Morton. What does he tell his kids? What does he tell others?

Only if Sha becomes HC

Easiest thing in the world is to look at someone else's decision and say "Man, if I was him I would NEVER do what he did." But what people think and do is always more complex than we can ever know. For whatever reason, Tiny did what he wanted to.

FWIW, maybe he wants to go back to that high school where he was known and respected and where HE was the guy calling the shots....as opposed to staying on the staff of a dead man walking and having zero real responsibilities. And of course maybe it's simply the culmination of a deal.....i.e., bring us IW (and Desi to boot), stay for a season, get tuition-free education for your son and still be able to go back to high school and pick up where you left off.

B/S, Tiny knows little about Seton Hall other than how to cash a paycheck.

jcalz. Maybe you should consult Dan if you think Tiny was making "well under 100k."...

He was the third assistant I could be wrong, but over 100k for that role would blow me away.

Teachers still get a pension. He's already got a few yrs in the system. Why throw it away, especially if he misses it or not comfortable in new role. Glad he gave it a shot wth SH, even if one year.

People forget that Morton has done more than all our assistants besides Sha

Yes but not in a positive way.

Before he became an assistant, he delivered Whitehead and Rodriguez after St. John's declined to engage him.

Not even close. You're just guessing because of his title.

Tiny Morton was EXREMELY well paid. As are all the assistant coaches.

BTW, Grant coming in young will not be on the same pay scale as Sha, Hill and Morton.

Tiny left the sinking ship because he didn't want to be here for the implosion of the 2015-2016 season.
